Pros

The employee discount is great! You can also communicate with vendors (particularly software venders) and get AMAZING DEALS on gear! I have about $2300 worth of pro level software I paid absolutely nothing for, and I'm sure other employees have even more. If you have an awesome crew and store manager, the job is somewhat more tolerable.

Cons

Big work load with little pay. The expectations of corporate are unrealistic. The employee discount is awesome but you rarely make enough money to actually use it. The entire culture is focused around being condescending and passive aggressive toward employees. You deal with tones of idiot customers. Working here makes you jaded and drains your passion for music. They USED to be very lenient with gigging and touring but labor budget cuts have lately made it more difficult for managers to accommodate those requests. The commission structure is an absolute joke! You have to SERIOUSLY break your back to make any kind of descent pay check (which is most sales gigs, but this one offers exceptionally awful pay). Sales guys are not valued, viewed as extremely replicable, and treated like crap.

Pros

I really enjoyed working at Guitar Center, and would not have a problem work there again. Overall as an employee, you'll be pushing to your 110% and working with several top industry professionals. Working here, you'll acquire a well rounded corporate experience that keeps you on your toes. The work environment is friendly with all around great benefits.

Cons

Most notable is that salaries are in the minimal to lower range for management, at capacity of work to be performed. Be prepared to take on more than is expected at all times -- while dealing with a high turn-over rate and consistent environmental change.

Pros

Working alongside a sales staff comprised of incredible musicians and local industry professionals. The ability to network with fellow musicians inside and outside of work. Getting to inspire and educate first time musicians and customers new to the music industry. Great insurance benefits for full time employees. Fair vacation, sick, and unpaid time off.

Cons

There is a lack of effective leadership from upper corporate management. Flawed commission structure for sales associates. Tools put in place to streamline and expedite the sales experience are completely ineffective and inefficient. The training for new employees is minimal and there is no dedicated training manager. Sales associates don't make commission for the first 90 days of employment but are required to make sales and achieve sales goals.
