Pros

Really smart and interesting coworkers, lots of cross-team collaboration, opportunities to work on impactful projects and learn continuously, great work environment, building an awesome product

Cons

At such a fast-growing company there are always a million things we could be working on, so we have to be very thoughtful about how we allocate resources - planning and prioritizing are key

Thanks for sharing your feedback, especially about being thoughtful when it comes to planning and prioritizing. We agree that these two ingredients are key when it comes to scaling a fast growing company and we are baking them into our planning for 2017. As always, please feel free to reach out to the People Team if you should have any suggestions on how we can continue to improve.

Pros

+ Talented and driven coworkers who are also very nice + Founders and senior leaders care a lot — as much about employee well-being as they do about serving our customers + The environment here makes you want to push yourself, but there’s a healthy respect for work-life balance too + Supportive managers, lots of opportunities for growth

Cons

Felt a bit disorganized in 2015 with a lot of projects and a rebrand happening all at once. Much better this year with better planning and new team structures.

Thanks for the positive words of encouragement! 2015 was a fast and wonderful learning experience for all of our team members, which certainly played into our planning for 2016. As planning for 2017 is underway, we will take our past experiences into light as we think about how to grow the business in a thoughtful and sustainable way. Looking forward to many more years to come.

Pros

Great atmosphere, motivated and intelligent coworkers, tons of opportunity to learn and grow, plenty of intellectually stimulating opportunities, engineering and product work very closely with all teams, management genuinely cares about the well-being of employees, great benefits.

Cons

To be successful you'll have to work tough hours, not that management dictates these hours in any way, but just naturally from how smart, motivated, and diligent folks are, keeping up and being a leader for others means really pushing yourself and that's going to require a lot of time.

We appreciate the insight into your journey at Gusto and couldn’t agree more with your observation on how talented, smart, and motivated our team members are. Although we do encourage our teams to push themselves in a healthy manner, it is also important for them to take the time to ensure that their well-being is also a top priority. Rewards tend to come in ways that some may not realize are all part of the compensation package - for example, one way that we try to reward folks on their hard work is by giving everyone a trip on their anniversaries to allow for rest, relaxation, and a fresh perspective. Another example that encourages long-term savings is an extremely generous 401(k) program. We are always excited to brainstorm ways to better allocate funds towards compensation, and encourage you to reach out to a member of the People Team with your suggestions!
