Pros

The people you work with are amazing, the managers are extremely helpful and do an incredible job. Small SPIFFS through the year

Cons

Low base pay with no commission. You do not receive commission until you are an AE, which they said would be 3-6 months after starting, but has currently been over 1 year. This is due to COVID, but no pay increases have happened besides a .62/hr raise.

Pros

I love the value and mission statement of Gusto. I love the people! I love Gusto's outtake on current events. When we were in office the perks were amazing.

Cons

If you are a licensed advisor or in a customer facing role prepared to be overworked. Gusto has a strange set up where only certain people are allowed to talk to customers. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but it becomes a problem when other people are making mistakes and you are suddenly the one that has to reach out to the customer to explain the mistake that someone else made. But of course the customers don't realize someone else did this, they think you do so they take it out on you. My biggest frustration is the lack of ownership that so many employees have taken on. Employees love to play "hot potato" which means they see a problem but don't want to solve it so it is passed down the line until someone steps up. Limited employees will step up and those that do get easily burnt out. Gusto loves change which isn't always a bad thing. But change is difficult when everything changes everyday. There is always a new product launch or a new partnership announced day of that everyone is now required to be an expert in when speaking with customers. You can feel this pain now more than ever during COVID and working remotely. We are overloaded with information and our growing customer base that employees in customer facing roles simply can't keep up with. Other things that have started to bother me the longer I've been working for Gusto is the lack of career opportunities. It's very difficult to move up or switch to another team. Promotions are limited and unfortunately the list of people waiting for one continues to grow. The pay & compensation has become a hot topic this past year. All raises and bonuses were put on pause due to COVID meanwhile the work volume doubled. The work you do will not match your pay especially if you are customer facing.

Pros

Wonderful people. I genuinely enjoy the people I work with. It's a good place to start your working career, but it's likely not a longterm place. Most folks leave around the 1 year mark.

Cons

The company will justify paying well below market value by offering perks like food, fun office, after work events. This is tolerable, but we aren't in the office right now so a lot of us just feel underpaid. Gusto froze hiring and stopped compensation raises when Covid hit. This is totally understandable and likely the fiscally responsible thing to do. However, as a company we actually continued to grow through Covid, which means there is more work to be done with the same amount of headcount and no increase in pay. It's a tough pill to swallow but we always fall back on the fact that we are lucky to still be working, but this doesn't mean we don't feel overworked. PTO- It's pretty flexible, but there are definitely times when our 'free' perk is leveraged in a way that makes it seem not so unlimited. Micro Managing- Managers are usually younger, and there isn't a ton of trust in their employees. At the start of our WFH period we had twice a day mandatory 'check-ins'. These were coincidentally scheduled for 8am and 4pm (just to make sure we were actually getting out of bed to work and not logging off early, I presume) This is a reasonable thing to do if we are hourly employees, but we aren't. If you're applying for an operation role, the job description can 100% be misleading. More times than not, they are basic data entry jobs and not the 'Account Manager' type roles the job description implies.
