Pros

Awesome parental leave policy.... That's literally it though

Cons

Where to begin.... The problem start with senior leadership. None of which have any idea what they are doing, or how to scale a company. There answer to everything is just to slack someone else and make it their problem. H1 is reactive to everything and rushes to do a bunch of things poorly, instead of taking the time to do it the right way. Business outlook is extremely poor and scary. Do not expect any job security, as there have been layoffs often over the last several year, with headcount being reduced by almost 50% over the last 5 years. Don't expect any type of raise or career progression either, they just run their best employees into the ground until they eventually quit or get laid off because they can't not afford to pay them anymore.

I want to say that if you are an alum of H1 of any amount of tenure, I wish you well and feel badly that this is how you may have felt at the time of your departure. I'm grateful you were here with us working with us on our team in any way you were during your tenure. 5 years ago we were exiting Y-Combinator with a very small team, had just raised our first funding round, and i personally feel odd on glassdoor having to clarify that we have grown significantly as a business since then. Most of our management team (especially during the past 2-3 years) have been promoted from within. Business outlook in 2025 has a lot of good things going, and we transparently report financial metrics to team members in town halls. Any current employee or candidate with an offer to join H1 can ask to discuss business outlook with me personally and I will talk through it with them. devin.basinger@h1.co

Toxic Leadership and No Real Product Vision

Pros

The CEO seemed well-intentioned, though often didn't trust teams to do their jobs and would micromanage. A few colleagues were incredibly smart and passionate, but their voices were often ignored or pushed out.

Cons

My experience at H1 was extremely disappointing. The work culture was toxic and demoralizing, driven largely by poor leadership at the top. The co-founder/CTO was emotionally volatile and displayed narcissistic behavior that created a fearful and unstable working environment. Across the organization, there was a clear lack of true product leadership. Instead, leaders often enabled this toxic culture rather than addressing it. Many of the most talented team members left during my time there, unable to tolerate the dysfunction. Leadership was ineffective, territorial, and contributed heavily to the toxic atmosphere. Product development was not driven by customer needs. Despite direct feedback from users, we were repeatedly told to disregard it and instead build whatever the CEO or CTO wanted—regardless of business or user value.

Hi former colleague - hope you are well. If there's more feedback to share, I'd love to receive it at devin.basinger@h1.co. Our product function has gone through a number of changes over the past few years and would be useful to understand the timing of your tenure in that context. We survey the team regularly (anonymously) and listen to the comments and have seen real improvements in this regard.

Scale-up company that is getting ready for an M&A

Pros

Great team and work dynamic if you can handle lots of moving parts and many changes in a short period of time. High customer-centric approach and an open-door policy with senior management.

Cons

They are a scale-up company doing their best in a though economic situation, so there is a lot of pressure on sales and performance. You need to be okay with a lot of changes in a short amount of time.
