Pros

-Increase in diversity & inclusion initiatives -Profit sharing (although it has significantly decreased) -401k matching at 5%

Cons

-Bought out by private equity firm, no longer employee owned -Inconsistent wfh/return to office dictation (it varies by department) -Removal of senior leadership for board approved members who have been at HCSS for less than a year whose singular goal is to make the company seem more profitable than it is in order to support a future liquidation event. This is particularly evident if you look at the composition of ELT 1 year ago to now. Almost every senior leader that was at HCSS prior to the buy-out has either retired, been demoted from Senior Leadership and given a new leader, or are discovering a "new adventure" for themselves. -The products are not continuing to evolve at an equivalent rate to justify the increased cost of them -Questionable pricing practices - (i.e. steep price increases or multiple price increases in a year) -New sales quota requirements encourage "bad sales" for customers who are not ready to adopt the software or aren't a good fit, deteriorating consumer trust, especially with the removal of the Money Back guarantee and subsequent punishment for early contract termination. Contract language revised to be similar to a locked in phone contract -Continuous change in commission structures in Sales that pad the bottom line for HCSS and strongly affect the BDR/SDR sales experience -Complete and utter mismanagement of health insurance benefits for 2024. HSA money had to be paid out after being inaccessible for 7 months of the year. -Loss of company culture in small ways (termination of specific events and traditions like Thanksgiving gift cards where employees would receive a gift card as a personal thank you. They now give pies from Costco instead which are appreciated but does not compare to a $100 gift card per employee) -Raises are capped. In the past, raises were proportional to performance. The most one can get now without board approval or presenting a business case for a significant increase is 5%, I acknowledge this is still higher than most companies but as my review title says, many are mourning the loss of what once was. -Guests and family members are no longer allowed on the campus post business hours or on the weekend. Amenities used to be shared to the HCSS community, people could come work out at the gyms or host their intramural basketball tournament on the campus but that is no longer allowed

I would like to start by thanking you for sharing your thoughts with us. Feedback is important here at HCSS and any review we receive is shared with our executive team members so they can be aware of said feedback, give their thoughts, and help us formulate a proper response. Please know these thoughts did not go unnoticed by our senior leaders and your efforts in reaching out are appreciated. While I'm not sure there is much we can share that will create an open dialogue of discussion moving forward, we do not disagree that HCSS has changed within the past few years. We are owned by a Private Equity Firm and have been since late 2021, we are adding more leaders and growing our headcount by the day to ensure our business continues to grow and is sustainable in our specialized market, and there have been some changes within our sales structure. At the same time, we've also added additional benefits offerings such as added sick leave, increased 401K matching, and additional diversity and inclusion initiatives as you mentioned; all while remaining a top place to work in the Houston area. Changes will occur as an organization grows, and we apologize that not all of them have been received positively. HCSS' guiding principle has been and still is to keep our employees happy and healthy. In return, we hope that said positive environment and demeanor will reflect in our interactions with our customers, keeping them happy as well. In the end, we want to thank you for your time with us and we also strongly encourage any connections you have here at HCSS to continue to speak up so we can navigate this growth together as an organization.

Pros

Sounds like HCSS was indeed a remarkable company prior to the Thoma Bravo acquisition.

Cons

To label HR as eccentric and reminiscent of a cult is arguably the understatement of the year. The eerie demeanor of HR, the unsettling aura of the CEO, and the enigmatic presence of Thoma Bravo leave much to be desired. I could delve further into the unsettling aspects, but to keep it concise, I'll conclude with this thought: I genuinely feel for those individuals attempting to endure the transition during the sale.

While we appreciate that you wanted to add your voice to the conversation about HCSS, the review is somewhat difficult to address and not exactly actionable. What we can say is that while you may deem the HR team “eccentric”, this diverse team of professionals is working hard to support HCSS, the employees, and our company goals. We have implemented many notable benefits enhancements, improved visibility and equity in promotions and advancement, and more. As companies grow and change, there are often hits and misses. That said, we are always working toward the goal of providing an excellent employee experience across the organization. Similarly, our CEO is a long-time, trusted, and respected member of the team. He is very available for employees including at lunch meetings weekly where we invite questions and discussions during every session. We respect that this may no longer be the right team or environment for you, but we do encourage you, as you say you are a current employee, to reach out and engage on topics that are important to you. We have lots of ways to contribute input and feedback and routinely use this information to inform our decisions. Perhaps with communication, we can be more open and collaborative.

Pros

You can do (almost) anything if you prove yourself. It can be difficult at times, I admit. If you want to get a job and ride it out without making waves, this may be not for you. If you like being given a chance to do more than take phone calls or program something with no say, then you will like it. It is up to you to do it. There are paths for design, business, technical programming, implementation, sales, marketing. You are not stuck where you got hired if you show affinity in other areas. I am not saying that you cannot feel like you are talking to a wall sometimes. However, if you have faith in yourself and can back it up, it will work. You can be heard at the highest levels. No accomplishment should be handed to you. It can be earned from low to high levels though.

Cons

No riding out a job for a paycheck forever. We don't want you anyway.
