Pros

Variety, robust GIS infrastructure, advanced server capabilities. Great place to excessive your GIS muscles

Cons

It's consulting so... You know... Consulting. HDR is consistently profitable partially by keeping tight control on costs. Be prepared for lots of unpaid lunch meetings.

Pros

Interesting projects, they treat their people well, and there's good support to pursue your career. I enjoyed the office culture in Denver, good work-life balance. The Denver office is stellar, with an excellent Department Manager in Brad Martin.

Cons

Personally, my specialty was bit spread-out, geographically, so my opportunity to develop and advance was somewhat limited. That was circumstantial, though. My sense, from talking with managerial folks, was that there were political frustrations for higher-ups. I didn't see much of that, personally. I did hear that they're cutting costs right now, so maybe changes are in the works.

A good company, but not all good offices.

Pros

A great opportunity for growth if you find yourself under the right project managers and supervisors, and are lucky to work on some of the great projects. Employee ownership and overall benefits are a great bonus to this company.

Cons

The past few years the Architecture company has suffered. Some managers/supervisors are not as invested in their younger staff as others, and require more persistence in mentoring when you have carreer goals. Others tend to micromanage and when they tell you they want to see you grow you believe them until they suppress your opportunities by constantly taking over your projects. Unrealistic project deadlines are also a very common theme around here.
