      Decent place if you just want a decent paycheck

      Flexible schedules, stability (steady paycheck), good benefits

      Cons

      -Management -Real engineering work opportunities are hard to find here. I estimate > 80% of engineering will never actually do any engineering work here. -Your opinion or what you want to do has no relevance.

      Electrical Engineer III

      Pros

      Everyone is a pleasure to work with. Great communication between engineering and union workers. Managers are understanding. Flexible work schedule. Submarine and aircraft carriers need to be built so solid work.

      Cons

      Over the past year there has been a decrease in benefits. The company offers no continuing education program. They have been offering a cohort program for nuclear engineering (graduate degree). Great for the shipyard. Good luck taking that somewhere else. The cohort programs takes 4 years and if for any reason you need to stop you have to wait for the next one to start. Oh an stock price is at a record high but we haven't got a raise for two years. They also started this financial advisor benefit by Aon Hewitt. They charge eight dollars a month for every 10 thousand dollars to manage your retirement account so if you have 20 thousand yet get billed 16 dollars month. Attrition is about 5 percent. Oh and if I haven't sold you on the shipyard yet, recently employee's have been held up for money at gunpoint in the parking lot. Oh and if you have to work in the yard and park in the lot make sure to show up at least an hour early to get a parking spot.

      Pros

      Good benefits. great environment to work and people are very nice I worked there for over 10 years.

      Cons

      Bad parking. There's a lot of preferential treatment within the company that limits some people's promotion.
