Pros

I was able to go to work when my kids were in school. My stores were visited weekly, and I never missed a day. I LOVED what I did and would have stayed, but I had to leave due to the unreasonable "offer". They thought they were doing me a favor. I loved having a few stores, but now down to ONE and for 5 days a week for only ONE HOUR a DAY? WASTE OF TIME!!! I wanted more work, but had 6 hour workweeks. YET I did drop everything to keep the stores neat and well stocked for major holidays. NEVER going over hours, but still no more stores offered to me. Crazy!!! A "good RM" but no reward or any type of offer to keep me on board. I stayed for 14 months, and worked from 6 hours to 30 hours. Ideally 15 hours would be a nice 'minimum', but it was a rare thing to get.

Cons

One of my stores was closed and I never was given any replacement to make up for hours. Now they are making it "mandatory to travel up to 60 miles" for a revision. That's a bit extreme for a 'part time' job. Now I see job openings posted for areas nearby, but was never offered any of these stores which I would have gladly loved to have worked, even just ONE or TWO added to my stores to service. My "offer" was a "take it or leave it" offer. NO they did NOT want to put me on a list to see if they could find me another "opportunity". My "career" was over with a phone call that lasted less than 3 minutes. I was SURE I had enough RETAIL STORES in MY area to service and would have had a better "route" than ONE store that was over 5 miles away. A 10 mile radius was what I was originally offered, and now NOTHING could be accommodated WITHIN 10 MILES? THE new jobs being posted have the locations, and MOST OF THEM are within my range......but instead I am now back on FOOD STAMPS, unemployed, and right back to where I was 14 months ago BEFORE I was hired as a "part time" employee. The amount of EXTRA stock shipped in is A WASTE. So much is DISCARDED. NO employee discount or benefits of any kind.

Pros

#1: You can often make your own hours as long as the store manager approves - a super plus especially if you are an early riser or a night owl and your store is open for you to work. #2: My field supervisors truly wanted to to do a good job and support the merchandisers, but their hands are tied by their supervisor and it was clear that they were overburdened as well -- they couldn't keep merchandisers so their manager demands also required they perform merchandiser duties as well, a sad situation.

Cons

#1: You will NEVER be allowed enough time to do a good job -- this means you will either stay in your store to finish on your own time/no $ (and then will of course, become resentful), or you'll be forced to comply with corporate's ridiculous expectations and just "do the best you can" with the time you're allocated to do the job (which is what your field supervisor will tell you to do). The time you are given is so far from being viable, you'll feel frustrated daily, you'll never feel fulfilled and if you go along with not doing a good job, you'll eventually lose your integrity and in my case, my health suffered. You can ask for help from your field supervisor but bc they are so busy, they may not reply to your pleas for assistance so don't expect it. You will be made to feel so grateful for help that you'll take anyone and that may includes another merchandiser who's lazy and/or could care less about doing a good job. #2: Be prepared to purchase your own tools: Office Supplies for your store (I had 9) such as paperclips, rubber bands, box tape, a label maker, a step stool, a rubber mallet and gloves plus another box cutter bc the tiny one they give you is cheap and will go dull quickly. The company does (eventually) provide a half apron, a supply bag and a pen along with the wrist held box cutter. Don't expect it quickly bc they want to make sure you plan to stick around before they give it to you. #3 Training is horrible and to add to this, the schedule for training varies and often, you don't know that you are training until the night before. Additionally, I was trained at other stores -- NEVER ONCE in any of my own stores and in my final hours of training (corporate only allows 15 hours training ), training was in a group setting so if you have a know it all in your group, you won't be able to ask for clarification and besides, there isn't enough time anyhow . The training, by the way, was more grunt work - not a real training opportunity in any of your assigned stores. You could be resetting someone else's store, cleaning the their long-time disaster mess, resetting their store or setting up for the next holiday (year round busy), ordering more cards, etc -- yes, most things you need to learn ! But imagine how I felt when I went to my stores for the first time, alone and to yes, a mess. It would have been more appropriate to have trained in at lease a few of my assigned stores so that at least I could start with a positive comfort level and a clean store as well. All my stores were a disaster , messy and very dirty and clearly not cared for for a long time. #4: You are given a Samsung device to check in/out, order, etc -- very smart. However, you will also receive endless texts from corporate with notices and directions that they are great at changing at the last minute. Directions with graphics are also very difficult to read and decipher - poor training is mentioned once again. You can watch videos but many still need clarification - good luck getting it. You will also receive endless texts about issues that have nothing to do with your stores/location, and a lot of congrats to others that clog up your requirement to read every text in which 99% will never help you do a better job or make you feel like corporate appreciates your hard work. Such a waste of a resource. I also had to call customer service many times due to log in issues. And btw, I did not get my device for a long time so i had to manually enter my time and whoever thought of that system was clearly not doing it themself -- very time consuming and ridiculous, all for, sometime, 1 hour of work. Really ridiculous. The device is paramount to doing your job, ordering and more -- it's EVERYTHING but don't expect it right away -- like I said, they are all unorganized and want to make sure you're going to stick around before they issue it to you.
