Pros

Schedules ran from Sunday-Saturday and came out on Wednesday or Thursday. If you needed to call in sick, you could actually do so without having to worry about getting written up, unless it was happening all the time. You get a 15 minute break if you are scheduled to work 4 plus hours, a 30 minute unpaid lunch when scheduled to work at least 6 hours, and if you work 8 or more hours then you get 2 breaks and a lunch. Working in a small town, you feel like you know pretty much everyone that comes in and also there is a sense of comradery between the departments and most employees know the other people who work in the other departments. There were also opportunities in this store to work in other departments and pick up some extra hours if they needed some extra help. The grocery department always seemed short handed, so they would always ask people from the Front-End if they wanted some extra hours stocking shelves. The bosses and other shift leaders were awesome and I really loved working there!

Cons

Part-time doesn't get you any of the company benefits, but that's how most part-time jobs work. You could wind up working any time during the hours of the store. Some of the customers are really rude, especially when the debit card/food stamps system goes down. The policies tend to change a lot for cashiers, i.e. what age to card for alcohol and tobacco, hosting at the end of the registers, no standing around, etc. Stand on your feet the entire time.

Pros

My boss is awesome, and the coworkers who have been there awhile are all great. It's a really nice atmosphere. They are flexible and are always there for you. A lot of people transfer between departments within the store, so there is a lot of lateral movement. If you get sick of a job or want a better paying job, etc. you have options within the store.

Cons

There can be a lot of turnover. It's hard to get full time hours. Also, there is no employee discount, which keeps prices overall low but would be nice to have. They do give coupons sometimes though.
