Pros

Good location off of the freeway, adequate pay and benefits. Lunch room is well stocked as well as free coffee. Lots of job openings and good if you need experience to add to your resume.

Cons

-The the culture and morale of the company is very poor. -HR has a kind face but does not have the authority to end bullying and other highly negative business practices.

Pros

The benefits package is good and much better than many smaller employers are able to offer. Health benefits are quite good, vacation policy is acceptable, 401k package is good but employer matching could be better.

Cons

An article on the Evil Mad Scientist website once called Harbor Freight Tools a "bastion of barely acceptable manufacturing standards." The same Devil-may-care attitude that goes into product quality also goes into day to day management. Consider the plan to move the corporate headquarters to a new facility in Calabasas. Presumably this move is to accommodate growth and expansion, and to get key departments under the same roof. The catch is that there are 180 parking spaces for 400+ employees. Yes, there is a van pool program but employees who I've spoken with are reluctant to sign up for the program because they fear it could jeopardize their jobs - they would not be available to work extra hours as needed. Managers who were originally promised offices are now being told that the space is needed for new executive staff - in other words, the plan to occupy the new corporate headquarters hasn't been fully implemented and it is already obsolete. This kind of short-sighted approach to management permeates every program and initiative within the company. Vital transition programs are suddenly put on hold because the budget has mysteriously run dry - threatening our ability to carry inventory in the very near term. The list just goes on and on.

Pros

Pay and some benefits PTO is great - if you can ever use it! You won’t be seeing any of the sick time though.

Cons

I had 0 work life balance working for harbor freight. My store was extremely busy at all times doing often 25-30,000 every single business day. Yes, even a Monday! We had no down time. The company runs stores and bare bones payroll 30,000 dollars on 3 coverage… completely unacceptable. I took work home DAILY! After working 50+ hours I was doing more at home. UNPAID! I wrote every store schedule at home for three years! There was NEVER time to do admin work in store. By the time I was finally able to leave this company I was so ragged and exhausted from running all day long loading tool boxes, driving fork lifts, etc etc… it took me over 6 months to fully feel like myself again. I promise this job has taken years of my life! I sacrificed so much and was only offered a promotion when I gave my notice - which affirmed for me that I wasn’t overlooked or under qualified - I was used. I left the company with 170 hours of PTO and 80 sick - they will Not pay you out for the sick time YOU earn!
