Pros

If you were very young and wanted to build skills fast, this might be worth legitimate consideration. Just try to leave it as a job, and separate work / home when you are there as much as possible. Startup feel to it.

Cons

As a former employee, i just want to say that a number of the other reviews (most of which are not 4-5 stars and obviously planted by hr and upper management) have good points. These reviews ring true and align with my experiences at this company. There was one review in particular that a current employee wrote (and got lashed out at b/c of) that i support and agree with. I respect that this person basically laid their job on the line and tried to appear objective in an uncomfortable situation for them. If you are honestly dumb enough to see pervasive 4-5 star reviews, and think they were legitimately written, you and Harmonia deserve each other. What does this say about management? What does it say about the culture when the constant tone of the response from harmonia is basically 'we know who you are - and you were / are a rogue employee at a nearly perfect company' ?

Here we go again. This is the same gentleman who wrote the negative review he refers to, then pulled it when we responded to it saying essentially what we are going to say here again. Lets think about it for a second. Would a "former employee" actually take the time to put in a review in support of a "current employee" review which has strangely been withdrawn from the site? The content of reviews like this do not deserve the courtesy of a response. Its unfortunate that is person chooses to use Glassdoor reviews in such an abusive manner. To the readers of this review - if you doubt that the more than 50 reviews on this site were fabricated by the company, then please call us. We will give you access to any number of our employees at any number of our offices and sites so you can gauge for yourself whether or not the reviews reflect who we are as a company.

Pros

Good benefits including PTO, insurance, and flexible work from home. Employees are usually willing to help out with problems even if they aren't on the same project. Anil Garg is hard on his team but will work with them to improve and grow.

Cons

For all its talk about being a women-owned business, it doesn't really do anything for women. No coverage for daycare, paternity leave is basically non-existent, maternity leave is just the bare minimum requirement. Jai has some serious anger issues and is prone to throwing temper tantrums instead of handling problems like an adult. McLean office has serious competency issues in both the business and engineering personnel. Not many paths for promotion for engineers beyond team lead positions, which really just equates to less coding time and more paperwork.

We do work hard to provide good benefits; however, being a smaller company, we aren't able to do it all. Thanks for recognizing that and for understanding that teamwork and collaboration go a long way toward creating a positive work environment. And yes- you recognize rightly that with management comes responsibility, and if you aspire to move into a management or leadership role, you will, in fact, be asked to spend less time "doing" and more time "managing". Luckily, management isn't required for leadership, and it sounds like you prefer to lead from within versus taking on a formal leadership role-- and that's okay with us too! All types are needed! We would appreciate it if you would reach out to us directly regarding your concerns with specific management versus making anonymous reviews in a forum that doesn't allow for a fair response. We are always looking for ways to improve and grow, and your thoughtful and contextual feedback would be appreciated.

Pros

The people (not management) are great - they are welcoming and genuine nice to be around.

Cons

Some teams are following agile and waterfall at the same time. They aren't transitioning to one or the other, just trying to do both. This forces those who aren't developers to wear multiple hats and have responsibilities with conflicting interests (i.e. 1 person being the scrum master and the product owner) or simply have too much work (being a PM and a Scrum Master and a part time PO).

Hi - thank you for your feedback and for your kind words about the management team. We do hear you about the Agile vs. Waterfall, although the issue is largely not of our making. The government is still slowly graduating from Waterfall to Agile and a lot of projects are stuck somewhere in the middle because on the one hand the contract is written in one way but on the other hand the actual program office has a different expectation. I see that you classify yourself as a former employee. i am sorry, we weren't able to retain you. I hope you will stay in touch. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
