Pros

Good health insurance plan and strong use of technology.

Cons

The entire Harris strategy is to buy (usually under-performing) companies with recurring revenue streams and milk them until the cash flow dries up. Unfortunately, that typically means squeezing out as many costs as they can. In their business, the largest cost is human capital, hence the inherent lack of job security in this model. Even if you are needed today, you never know when the cash flow will dry up and your job along with it - because Harris management are used to milking companies, not growing them. That's why almost every job there is a dead end job. Recently, since they are running out of acquisition targets, they've decided to grow the businesses they acquire, but for some strange reason all of their business success metrics are still focused short-term profit, instead of long-term growth. That sends a mixed message to the staff and the market that Harris wants long term growth, but lacks the patience to get there.

Pros

The option to work from home is nice.

Cons

Totally depends on what division and business unit of Harris that you are in. My experience: Very middle management heavy. Managers often do not have the skill set to assist with much of anything, other than the yearly reviews. Management team often interjects chaos instead of working towards any semblance of organization. Great promises were made to all new clients, with the known inability to deliver in a timely manner. Namely due to the lack of organization and experience within our business unit. The staff was not allowed to convey to clients that we were hit by Ransomware, so the employees were thrown under the buss for 'lack of progress' when there was no system to sign into and work on. I'm not sure where Ransomware is in the Harris core values: Accountability, Responsibility, Ownership. Nope. Not there. More often than not, employees were asked to work additional hours to help offset the poor time-management and planning that their Project Managers exhibited throughout the life cycle of projects. Another core value of Harris not being followed: Respect of the Individual. In addition to the overtime, there was the request to 'work harder' - as if it was not clearly obvious to all parties involved that the management team did not have sufficient resources to cover existing projects. You can't just 'work harder' and expect everything to get better. Find a solution to the problem using common sense. One of the greater problems at Harris has been, and continues to be the lack of communication between management and teams on projects, which leads to a set of goals that only management and stakeholders are aware of. Providing promises without conveying to the folks doing the work that a promise had been made is a recipe for disaster. See also Harris core value: Communication and Sharing Knowledge. Finally: Bad News Does Not Get Better With Time. For the love of god - follow this core value and have the hard conversations with your clients and staff that are needed, instead of avoiding the the issue, or sending nasty grams and punching down on your staff because of your own inadequacies.

We appreciate your time to write this review. We take our values seriously and when they are not lived it is not something we at Harris take lightly. I do hope you escalated these concerns to executive leadership and/or HR. We continue to improve our management training programs, specifically front-line managers, this review makes me think we should consider adding project managers to some of these sessions.

Pros

It is nice that the company is remote, but I have also found that this can result in less work-life balance if you have a manager that doesn’t respect a traditional work week and expects you to always be available/doesn’t have the best time management of their own.

Cons

I have gone from being one of this company’s biggest supporters to speaking out where I can to advise against working here after the last year I spent at the company. They preach core values that they largely do NOT abide by, and management often create hostile situations and/or will enable underperforming or unaccountable employees because of personal connections that regularly distract from business unit goals. This also often results in the other employees on the team having to regularly pick up extra work to try and make sure that the customers or internal teams depending on them aren’t impacted. When issues are brought up, there is a definite lack willingness to deal with the them, which often also makes them worse. One example…Harris Computer sent out ‘anonymous’ surveys asking about how comfortable and safe you feel working there, with your manager, and to report things without repercussion that was packaged as a way for them to see what can be done better in the company, but when a negative response was reported the employee was fired the very next morning. I will admit that a lot of your experience at Harris Computer depends on the particular Business Unit you work for, but as someone who has worked under (and internal support for) several different healthcare BUs during my tenure..I have seen that a lot of the problems are the same/very similar across groups, they are just handled more effectively depending on who the leaders are. Pay is also not in line with industry standards, and does not increase when more responsibilities (or even when full positions) are added on to your plate.
