Pros

Trying to come up with some pros, the company I work for was acquired by Harris years ago. Good vacation time accrued, but is countered by the overtime expectation, below industry pay increases.

Cons

P.C.'s you get for work are slow with not enough hard drive and take months to get, VP of my division doesn't even know what our software does. Salary increases are incredibly low, the bonus they give year fluctuates in amount and neither the raises and bonus covers the amount of overtime you are expected to work. You only get a good performance review if you have worked a lot of unpaid overtime. When staff leaves they do not fill position, leaving others to do more work without compensation. Many, many people at or above management level compared to actual workers. No work/Life balance, they expect you to be available 24\7 and don't compensate you for it. They want you to do their work outside of business hours. People will back stab you to advance themselves. They think salaried employee means that you should work 24\7. No training, you are expected to just figure things out. I can't tell you how many times I've made plans for after work only to have to change my plans last minute because of some kind of emergency. I've had to stop making plans and commitments. Even getting to their out of town Holiday Party and back requires you to put in major overtime hours and cost you money out of your own pocket. But they consider that a "Perk".

Pros

The job is absolutely terrific. You get to answer calls from old ladies in a county recorder office somewhere who are in need of help. The customers are mostly pleasant and you deal with the same people consistently so its not like the usual tech support where you have to identify the customer every call. The work is also fun (although risky if you're not focused), you remote into servers, access databases and resolve issues using SQL. You get 12 days off a year, good benefits, and reimbursement for a lot of things, especially if they tie into your job (school, cert, etc.). The office is very nice, equipment is great, the break room has awesome coffee/tea selections. There is a cafe located right outside the office, inside the building which is really convenient for those days when you were late and couldn't grab breakfast, or late and wanna take a short lunch to compensate. The people who work across every department are mostly fantastic individuals who are truly intelligent, and you can make great friends/acquaintances when you go to a company dinner or happy hour.

Cons

The application you support is dated, full of bugs, and runs on an old visual basic code that is rarely updated. There is no interaction with the development team (it is frowned upon). There is no job security, even if you perform extremely well, you are at the whim of office politics specifically related to your department. There is no work-life balance, your manager expects you to be early and leave late, and schedules team meetings and such during your breaks. The team aspect of this job is detrimental, not all members of the team support customers as they should, and focus more on administrative tasks within the office, or projects for single clients unrelated to the role of supporting all clients as a whole. There is a rotating schedule with different tasks for each shift, for tasks that should have a position of their own (i.e. Administrative Assistant, Secretary). Also, most importantly, there is no opportunity for training, and thus no chance for growth, your manager expects you to grow on your own. Your manager dictates the assignment of tickets and unless you manage to resolve a call as it comes in, chances are you will not be assigned enough tickets to reach your goal of 5 for the day (sounds easy I know, but most of these issues are application bugs that need to be addressed by development and cannot be resolved by a single tech). I can keep going and give specific examples, but I think you get the idea... The cons outweigh the pros...

Pros

Friday breakfast- before budget was cut co-workers

Cons

Managers are promoted and given no managerial training. Things were good when the company was getting new contracts- loyal and long time employees terminated when things got tough. Employees no longer trust management. Customers not receiving the level of support they deserve. Management plays favorites with employees.

Pros

Very good benefits including the ability to get up to 5 weeks of vacation. Chances to work with new technology and because of the size there are chances to move positions pretty easily. Very good about offering training opportunities.

Cons

Health insurance that they offer has gotten progressively worse over the last 5 years. The pay they offer is a bit low in comparison to some other similar companies.

Pros

Great co-workers (can't stress this enough). Flexible work hours. Option to work from home from time to time. Decent pay. A new big project on the horizon.

Cons

Lack of training for new members. Horrible time management from project leads. Need of overtime to meet goals. The product is based on old technology. Constantly sacrificing quality to meet times. All products lack of ease-of-use. No room for professional growth. You are either programmer or lead.
