Pros

Some really nice regular customers.

Cons

When you start YOU have to pay for your uniform, even if you work in deli, you even have to buy your own apron. You may or may not get a break throughout the day, they are only "required" to give you a 30 min lunch break if you work over 6.5 hours, other than that good luck. You aren't even allowed to keep a water bottle at your station. There is zero training, and corporate folks expect you to "take charge of your own training" as if we know what questions we're supposed to ask. Most department managers are rude and terrible at scheduling, so every department is always chaos. You get documented warnings for the littlest things, like not having a light on at your register. The health insurance is ridiculously expensive, and the coverage is terrible. Just overall a miserable and sad place to be in, and I wouldn't recommend working for this company to anyone.

Pros

Good customer service culture and policy

Cons

Your offer letter states that you will work anywhere up to 50 miles from your home. It never occurred to me that living in a major metropolitan area, with 3 Harris teeters within less than 1 mile from my home and tens more less than 10 miles, I would be placed out in FarFax 18 miles away. My training store was in the city of Falls Church, less than 5 miles and 15 mins. Every single manager I complained to or talked to about it, told me they were driving 45 minutes up to 2 hours ONE WAY to work, passing countless stores on their way in. That is unfair and it is dumb. Why wouldn't you want your employees to be part of the community they serve?

Pros

When you work at a store when everyone is working towards the same goal, Harris Teeter is a great place to work. Friendly customers and fellow associates, semi flexible hours for part time associates, and an overall nice environment.

Cons

The pay is abysmal for associates that have been with the company for years. They bring in external employees at much higher rates than the people who have been there for a long time. I’ve been with the company since 2016, and graduated from the DLT program last April and make more than 3 dollars less than a DLT who just joined the company. Not to mention in my time at my current store I’ve been acting CSM, and by myself with no help during every major holiday.
