Pros

Colleagues who work hard and care about one another. A good place to work if you are new to the field and are just trying to get some experience or need to take a quick, 12-month or less, break from private practice (I stayed way too long). It's about average in terms of this moment of venture capitalists using mental health to make their nut. Original admins and staff (really good people) are like deer in headlights trying to keep therapists from leaving, new leadership views therapists as a dime a dozen. One bright spot, they are too 'obsessed' with themselves to micromanage you much.

Cons

Corporate-based mental health, non-clinical leadership that has zero idea what it means to be a therapist. The pay scale is so-so, and if you push back, you'll be quiet fired (look that up). Lots of talk about leadership being 'obsessed' with clinicians and clients, which is so very weird. You will be sapped and exhausted and the expected 25 plus hours of client contact (that's total hours, not sessions) will burn you out fast. Non-stop intakes, packed schedules, and no real concern (lip service, sure) for the well-being of counselors.

Pros

The leadership team at this company genuinely cares about employees and tries to provide a positive work environment. This is a fairly new company and there seems to be fairly open communication and acknowledgement that lots of transition is happening. Team leads do their best to provide a space for therapists to process transitions and gain support. If you are not a provider that is able to or wants to do private practice, Sokya seems like one of the healthier work environments in the grand scheme of large tech/MH startups.

Cons

SokyaHealth has received funding via private equity, which means that employees will never see significant financial gains, as any leftover revenue will be focused on paying back investors rather than increasing provider pay. While it may be good for the company's growth, the move ultimately leaves therapists behind. It remains to be seen if leadership can find a way to balance the needs of the company with those of their employees. Additionally, Sokya has added a TON of unnecessary leadership roles, many of which have no idea what clinicians do or how healthcare works. And the more non-revenue producing leadership roles there are, the less the providers take home as their revenue needs to pay for these roles.
