Pros

1. Outstanding Benefits: Health Catalyst offers exceptional employee benefits, including a solid 401k match, stock options, and reimbursement for internet and cell phone expenses. The inclusion of tuition reimbursement is also a positive aspect. 2. Work/Life Balance: The company places a strong emphasis on maintaining a healthy work/life balance, allowing employees to juggle professional and personal commitments effectively. 3. Good Diversity Equity and Inclusion: The diverse mix of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences has transformed the environment in a good way. For the vast majority of my time I was happy to see the inclusion of everyone and even affinity groups in slack that you could participate in. 4. Start up culture vibes - in a company no longer in "start up" territory: One of the standout benefits of our startup culture is the invigorating open space meetings. I loved that people came into these meetings or hosted their own to share something random that change the their game in some way.

Cons

1. Poor Base Pay: One significant drawback is the below-average base pay compared to industry competitors. This can be a point of dissatisfaction for employees seeking competitive compensation. 2. Limited Growth Opportunities: Health Catalyst seems to lack opportunities for career growth. Employees may find themselves hitting a ceiling, with minimal room for advancement within the company. 3. Frequent Layoffs: The company's tendency to conduct regular layoffs creates an unsettling and fearful work environment. This instability can negatively impact morale and job security. 4. Technical Challenges: There appears to be a technical proficiency gap among the staff, especially in basic tools like GIT. This can hinder collaboration and overall efficiency in the workplace. 5.Lack of Innovation: Health Catalyst's reluctance or slow pace in adopting innovation is a concern. The pattern of creating tools followed by layoffs, leaving products unsupported, is counterproductive and may hinder overall company progress.

Wow! Thanks for this thoughtful, detailed review. So much great feedback here. We are considering changes in equity compensation to avoid distraction with our team members and focus on base salaries. As a leadership team, we are working on our stakeholder strategy to balance long-term sustainability with short-term realities of the market. The strategy includes addressing the dual importance of both our technology and our services to our overall company growth. I am wishing you all the best! -Dan Burton

Pros

I really love the people I work with. They make the difference for me. The company offers great benefits and for the most part the culture is great too.

Cons

The last two years have been very difficult for the platform team. With the changes in leadership I feel we lost focus and direction, resulting in a significantly negative experience for software developers. I'm concerned that we might not meet the deadline for delivering CDP (if at all).

Thanks for your significant nine years of contributions to our success and your thoughtful review. I agree that the people at Health Catalyst are amazing! I also agree that the need to make strategic adjustments has been difficult. I believe our next-generation data & analytics platform is an important, critical part of how we deliver on our mission, and we are excited to continue rolling out this next-generation data & analytics technology with more clients in 2024. I also agree with you about the value of visiting directly with members of the technology team. I have been spending time, 1:1, with leaders at different levels recently, and have also devoted meaningful time, face to face, with our early clients who are our innovation partners with the next-generation data platform. In the last three weeks I’ve spent two full days in face to face discussions with these innovation clients, more deeply understanding their experience with the next-gen platform, and another full day with the next of our clients to migrate to this platform. I come away from all of those discussions really energized and encouraged by their feedback and enthusiasm. There is still a great deal of work to do, including a multi-year effort to migrate our existing DOS clients to this new infrastructure, but I’m more convinced now than ever that this is the right technology architecture and strategy to meet our clients’ current and future needs. In our next 2-3 All Team Member Meetings, technology leaders will be providing all team members with demos and updates on this critical project so we can all have a better understanding of where we are, and be in a position to contribute to this project’s success! I would be happy to spend some time with you 1:1 to understand more about your perspective and experience. If you feel comfortable, please reach out to me via email or your Leadership Team member. Thanks again. Best, Dan Burton

the last year has brought a ton of anxiety as to if I will be on the chopping block every time they have restructure (which has happened 3 times since starting there in 2020)

Thanks for your review. I am grateful that a positive culture is reflected in your experience. I also recognize that while economic realities are difficult, and as we balance being EBITDA positive, this leads us to need to make difficult decisions, including restructurings. We strive to batch these structure decisions together as part of the annual planning process, which includes both areas of needed reduction, but also areas of new investment and growth. We are working through the final phases of the 2024 planning process over the next several weeks, which we will then finalize in February, and be able to turn our focus to great execution for the remainder of 2024. Please make sure you are taking care of yourself to address your anxiety. We care about our team members and want to make sure our work feels sustainable and meaningful. If you need help, don’t hesitate to reach out to me, our Chief People Officer (Linda Llewellyn), or your Leadership Team member. Thanks for your contributions to our success! Best, Dan Burton
