Incredibly Grateful to Work Here

Pros

Health Catalyst is simply honest and straightforward. The company lives by its mission through exemplifying the cultural attributes: smart, hardworking, and humble. Realistically, I couldn't ask for much more from this company. They take care of their customers. They take care of their employees. We are doing something special here and would recommend to anyone that has the opportunity to join our company family to do strongly consider it. Check out the company website, the benefits section, and other reviews; these will provide you a long list of pro's that go above and beyond anything else I've experienced.

Cons

I took a 5-10% cut in compensation, this could be attributed to change in title and years of experience directly related to new title. Health Catalyst is not the market leader when it comes to pay but they are competitive. With growth and success comes need for continual flexibility to ever evolving policies, nothing major though.

We also sincerely hope that culture and what it is like to work here at Health Catalyst will always remain as a reflection of those things we commonly believe (and refer to) as the "things that cannot change". There will always be things (many things, in fact) that will necessarily change as we grow and evolve as a company. The "business of doing business" is something that, in many areas, requires a completely different approach when you are a company of 5 vs. 50 vs. 500 team members, and we have seen many, many changes along these lines over the past 8 years. However, the things that cannot change-- the mission, the vision, the "why" of what we do-- these things should never change-- and leaderships commitment to all team members is that these things won't change. It is the secret sauce that has brought us this far. Thank you to you, and to each member of our team, you are what makes our company great!

The Hype is Real

Pros

Reading the Glassdoor reviews made me skeptical of the company. I thought that there was no way they could deliver on everything that was being said. I was wrong. The company has great leadership and is mission driven. As a team member, you always know where the company is headed. You feel empowered to make decisions and do your job. It is easy to tell that Health Catalyst cares about its employees. They recently eliminated non-compete clauses and now allow their customers to recruit their employees. This is because they want what is best for each employee, and they trust that they can give it to them in most cases.

Cons

Some cons come with a growing company. The biggest thing I see right now is a lot of shuffling to try keep up with growth. This means pulling people off of their current teams to fill in gaps elsewhere, which could lead to problems in the future. I do have faith in the leadership team to figure this out. Another con is that it seems you can have drastically different experiences depending on which team you land, particularly with onboarding. Some teams may not offer much guidance which can lead to frustration.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice, as well as your kind words about our company. I also agree with your two concerns-- uneven experiences depending on your manager, and what can sometimes feel like a lot of assignment shifting as we strive to keep up with the growth. Both of these issues are elements that we are working to improve, and we are excited about where we see the company headed in these areas. We will continue to work on these, and appreciate all that you do for our company!

Worthwhile mission and vision

Pros

Great mission and purpose. Knowing that my work is making a difference in so many lives is great. Benefits are secondary, but they are amazing as well! The people I work with every day make this job amazing. Great people, great culture, great future.

Cons

Only negative I've had while working here has been when feedback is not honest and open between individuals, groups, and departments. I think most could be better at having those uncomfortable discussions. Honest feedback to peers and managers is vital and I feel that sometimes feelings are hidden and kept secret when they truly do need to be shared for the better of a department and the company.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful review. I completely agree with your statements, including your Cons and Advice to Management thoughts One of our growing pains here at Catalyst right now is our ability to successfully model and perpetuate the right behaviors around honest feedback. We must trust one another enough to have uncomfortable conversations. We must share what needs to be shared, even if it will sting a bit, both for the giver and the receiver. I don't have a silver bullet answer on this, except to say that it is top of mind for me personally, and we discuss it often as a leadership team. Change like this is slow-- but I believe we are putting the right things in place to effect this change. We are rolling out performance management/1:1 training to managers in the next couple weeks (the beta test training already happened and was very successful). We will continue to work on this. Thanks again!
