Pros

- The people. Some exceptional people work at this company and it is wonderful to rub shoulders with them and learn together. I've grown so much personally and professionally because of my coworkers. - Executive leadership team that strives to be transparent, live by the golden rule, put team members at the center of decisions, and avoid over or under reacting to problems and concerns - Mission-based company (it's so awesome to be contributing to something that matters) - Meaningful cultural values. And they're not just buried in an employee handbook or written on a wall somewhere--we review and try to implement them in our work regularly. - Good benefits. Some of my favorites = flexible PTO, 3-month maternity/paternity leave (with flexible options on how to use it), HSA (with company matching), Tava Health (mental health counseling), gym/fitness allowance, cell phone, internet - Remote work, which allows flexibility in schedules and everything else (extremely helpful as a parent!!) - Encouragement for continuous learning and growth. Company offers internal courses related to communicating, servant leadership, understanding products, etc. There is also an annual review process that allows people to assess strengths and weaknesses, and identify goals and growth. Additionally, there an education allowance (which I have never used because it doesn't currently cover travel for educational conferences, but it's super cool). The company favors promoting from within (something I've experienced). It's not perfect (sometimes it depends on where you work and who your manager is) but I've seen lots of career growth opportunities available to people seeking them out.

Cons

- LOTS of change in recent years. Layoffs, reorgs, adjustment to leadership and company (and product) strategy have happened several times. It feels like a rollercoaster sometimes. When leadership is transparent about decisions, it helps immensely, but it's still been a wild ride. Some of that is the world/industry we're in, and some of it is specific to our company. I hope to see things calm down in the near future and we'll feel more sunshine peaking through dark clouds. - Understandably, as a public company, there is a lot of focus on balance sheets, stock prices, and shareholder interests. Sometimes I miss the startup vibes but pros/cons to working for a public vs. private company.

Thank you for taking the time to share this thoughtful and detailed review. It truly means a lot to hear that our operating principles and cultural attributes—particularly transparency—are resonating and making a positive impact on your experience. We work hard to ensure these values are not just words but are lived out in our decisions and daily interactions. I’m especially grateful to hear that you’ve found such fulfillment in the people you work with, the mission we’re pursuing, and the benefits that support you both personally and professionally. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that our focus on continuous learning, flexibility, and employee well-being is valued and making a difference. At the same time, I recognize that change—especially at the pace we’ve seen in recent years—can be challenging. I acknowledge it is a steep mountain to climb each year to “earn the right” to keep moving forward as an independent public company. I believe we have the right plan and, most importantly, the right team in place to navigate the path ahead. Your feedback reinforces the importance of transparency as we move forward. Above all, I want to personally thank you for your more than nine years of contributions. Your dedication and impact over the years have helped shape who we are today, and I sincerely hope you continue to find a bright and fulfilling future with Health Catalyst. Thank you again for sharing your perspective—it’s incredibly valuable, and we’re grateful to have you on this journey with us. -Dan Burton

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m glad you’ve found value in the relationships you made within our company—our people are truly at the heart of everything we do. That said, I am saddened to hear that you’ve encountered individuals who are not living up to our cultural attributes. Our core operating principles build on our commitment to fostering a workplace where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity; no one should feel that they are working in the type of environment that you described. I’m sorry that was the case for you, and I sincerely hope you were comfortable enough to share these concerns with People Operations. In addition, I want to address your concerns about compensation and benefits. At Health Catalyst we are committed to working toward paying above-market rates, targeting the 65th percentile for all core team member positions, which represent nearly 90% of our workforce. While we’ve communicated that we will need a few years to get every core team member to that 65th percentile level, we’ll continue to prioritize this each annual planning cycle. Your feedback is truly important, and I appreciate your sharing. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. -Dan Burton

Pros

Loved the Health Catalyst way and Community! I appreciated the CEO honestly and transparency. Being a remote first company was great! I loved how employees can make changes and make a difference within the company. The fast paced environment was great! I loved the sense of community within the ATM and community events!

Cons

Long hours with changing work requirements and deadlines. Lack of a flexible work schedule. The work expectations were unrealistic. My manager provided an unsupportive environment for my career growth. My manager was micromanaging and unprofessional. I was told when I was hired that my hours would be 40 hours a week only to have to work 50-60 hours to meet work expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. While I’m grateful to hear that you appreciated the Health Catalyst way, our sense of community, and our commitment to transparency, I’m saddened to hear that your experience with your manager did not reflect our values. I recognize how difficult, frustrating, and disheartening it must have been to have such a relationship with your manager and to see your role require significantly more hours than expected. I sincerely hope that you felt comfortable sharing your concerns with People Operations. I deeply believe in fostering an environment where team members feel supported, trusted, and empowered to grow in their careers, one where team members can maintain a healthy work-life balance. Feedback like yours is invaluable in helping us improve, and I appreciate your suggestion regarding a formal manager review process. Leadership accountability is critical, and we will continue to evaluate ways to ensure that all team members are supported in their roles. Thank you again for your contributions and for sharing your perspective. Your feedback is important, and I appreciate your honesty in helping us create a better experience for all team members. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. -Dan Burton
