Pros

The work (what is done and why) is rewarding.

Cons

Micromanagement; inconsistent application of corporate policies; Sick leave policies left up to the interpretation of individual supervisors and no clear definition of terms in the corporate policy (i.e. What, exactly, is a "routine doctor's appointment"?) Managers with no people or leadership skills; lack of recognition or compensation for excellent job performance; managers that take credit for their subordinates ideas, work, or accomplishments. In a nutshell, this organization needs clarification of its policies and a big move toward applying the same standards to all---not allowing each manager/department head to make up their own rules. Finally, the entire workforce would benefit from bringing the union in to help ensure fair and equitable treatment for all, as well as to negotiate appropriate compensation packages.

Pros

Most units work well together, love my co-workers can make a rough day a little better pay is in line with most in surrounding area but is low free gym membership if you have their insurance because of size many opportunities available within organization

Cons

morale is low. most nursing staff are not happy with current position. patient ratio has increased to unsafe levels on most units incentive pay for certifications has gone away. PL is ok but hard to get time off approved due to nursing shortage always seem to work short staffed management is always turning over so much that employees joke about it being the fastest way to get fired is by going in to management. micromanagement from upper management who have no clinical experience management makes promises it will get better but nothing changes or gets worse they like to hire new grads which is great but you need to keep experience also or it becomes dangerous to patients you have new nurses teaching new nurses. patients are just dollar signs and employees are numbers not many other options for hospital based employees or patients in the area

Pros

Some of the employees are some of the best and most caring nurses in the county, they stand apart from the rest, but are few and far between.

Cons

The other employees are incompetent and lazy, backstabbing and underhanded. The management prefers to have employees who don't buck the system. Nepotism, supposedly against health first policy, is rampant in some departments and management looks out for friends and pushes anyone who speaks up out the door. If you become a target expect everything you do to be scrutinized and expect no one to listen to your side of the story. Await your meeting where you get blindsided by well documented nitpickings of your performance, while gross failures of policy and patient safety by others are ignored, expect to hear about that time you once didn't smile enough when asking another for help. Never mind the heparin drip that wasn't started for an entire shift by a coworker, ignore the techs in the hallway clustered together snap chatting, don't even bother to pay any mind to the managers favorites who commit med error after med error.
