Pros

Let me just be honest. I am writing this because I have seen what others have said, and I am proud to say I work at Helion. I am surrounded by awesome co-workers who really know how to make you feel like part of the team and will stop what they are doing to help you get better. 4 years at college didn't teach me nearly the amount that I learned in my first 6 months. There are no restrictions to what I can work on and learn. I've also gotten the opportunity to travel over the country from New York to California on the company dime. It's not mandatory, but its there if you want it. I've gone to Ravens games and sat in Helion's owner's seats. The owner has even taken me out on his boat with him and some other employees on a working day! I've worked another IT job and at that one my manager didn't know how to defrag a hard drive. That is not the case here. The Managers and Leads all work with me on a day-in-day-out basis. I have even worked on troubleshooting with the owner and my boss's boss guiding me through the steps. They typically stop whatever it is that they are doing and help out everyone they can. I won't lie...the work is a grind. Some days the calls never stop coming in. But unlike my other job, there is not a person on the team that doesn't pull their weight. If they don't, they either learn to get better or they aren't there for long. The company is growing like wildfires too. In this year, I have seen several people (myself included) earn promotions. One of my co-workers was even promoted to our advanced team called Systems. I have also seen new faces added to the team and we have a new office in Dallas, TX. The biggest pro though is something that I have never experienced before. We are asked to work late sometimes (not told), but our boss goes out and buys burritos for us...and then stays with us until we close down for the night. We are never asked to stay and kick in extra unless they are right there with us. I have never worked for anyone that stays in the thick of things with his employees like that.

Cons

My boss is hard, but who's boss isn't really. He demands a lot from us and he is a pretty imposing person when he is fired up cause he's a big guy. I've asked other employees about him to just get a feel for him, and the ones that have been with him the longest all tell me that he is like that because it used to be terrible before he was in charge. I cannot complain about the results though. Like I said, everyone pulls their weight. It would be great if we always weren't sprinting pace. They are hiring more, but haven't kept up with the growth.

Pros

Good place to learn, fun people, but lots of employees there have toxic traits, or are known sleezeballs.

Cons

Toxic customers, hard to advance, low compensation, will not listen to employees

Pros

- Great coworkers: there are very few people that work at Helion that I did not care about. The ones who do not fit the culture at Helion were typically weeded out pretty quick. I made many life long friends and hope everyone the best. - Culture: the building is Star Wars themed, most people are friendly and willing to help. - Events: The CEO is very open to company events and will actually cook the food and serve you at the company BBQ's. - Knowledge. You will learn everything you need to know to become a great technician at Helion. They also provide a lot of opportunities (training, paid training, etc...) to keep learning. However, if you don't take the initiative to get certifications, you will not go anywhere. - Benefits: The healthcare is really great. It's free and top notch. The 401k is nice too. - Company Outlook: Helion is rapidly growing and I believe it will be a top company very soon. You will never lose your job from a lack of business. Seriously. - Career Growth: You can start as a Desktop Support Analyst 1 and make your way to Systems, Projects, or any other department in the company if you work hard and follow the career pathing. They will also reimburse you for certifications. - HR: The HR team is very organized and efficient. They really do care about your experience at Helion (from day one to the last day of your tenure) and you as a person. If you have any issues or complaints that you feel are not being heard, or you're not quite sure of, they are always willing to help you out. Just don't blatantly violate company policies - this is a job, not a playground. - Executive team: The leaders at Helion know what they're doing and are very competent. - Management: There are a few really really good managers. The others are just trying to climb the corporate ladder as fast as possible and do not really care for their employees at all. - I would recommend Helion to anyone who is new to IT and looking to start their career. It can be hard to come in at mid-level as you have to get used to their ways but regardless of your experience - you will learn from a variety of intelligent and capable individuals.

Cons

- Workload: When they say fast-paced, they mean it. Helion is constantly growing. It's difficult to recruit to stay on top of the workload. If you can't handle a fast-paced environment, you should stay away. Seriously, you will not be happy here. - Benefits: PTO, sick time, vacation -- it's all the same. No disability insurance which -- in the event something goes wrong -- will quickly drain your PTO. There is no tuition reimbursement. - Work from home: You are very rarely allowed to do this. - Pay: Helion does not pay a competitive salary. - Career Growth: If you do not work in Desktop, your career growth is extremely limited.
