Pros

U can make this job what you want it to be. You can work 40 hours or 20 hours per week. Up to you! Friendly and understanding supervisors. Do the job and there are no issues!

Cons

No bonuses, everyone paid at same rate, no time off paid, no sick time, etc. People do not want to come to work. Discipline is threatened, but never utilized. No home visit done before assigning client to worker. Worker has no prior knowledge of client needs assessments.

Worst Company I've ever worked for

Pros

Caring for the clients was the only good thing.

Cons

- The pay is absolutely terrible, It's a union job yet they pay you minimum wage with no raises and expect that to be enough. Caregiving is not a minimum wage job. - You can maybe get full time hours if you care for multiple clients which is a lot of work and a lot of stress and traveling, and therefore not worth it considering how low the pay is for the work itself. - The support from the supervisors and managers and office staff is atrocious. They make so many mistakes, rarely call you back when you need assistance, and deflect blame off of them and often on to you if they make mistakes...which are many. The manager at my branch in portage Park in Chicago would have his mailbox constantly full and not able to accept messages and would rarely ever answer his phone calls to his office. I feel this was purposeful which is absolutely horrible support. - Again the pay is terrible. This company makes millions of dollars every year with multiple branches across the entire United States, and yet they somehow feel in their contract they created with the union for their workers, that we are only worth minimum wage with no raises and no opportunities for advancement whatsoever. Caregiving is not a minimum wage job!! And the law in Chicago, Illinois specifically states that caregivers are supposed to be paid several more dollars an hour for their work, if they work for the state that is. But because you do the same exact job for this private company, they feel you are only worth minimum wage and that's the best you're going to get. This is a terrible company and you should stay away at all costs. I stayed as long as I did because I cared for my client and I didn't want to leave them in poor hands. But I've been in extreme financial danger this entire year working for them, trying to get better hours and pay, that I finally had to leave my client to get a new job. They also don't care anything about your safety if you happen to be in dangerous situations because of a client's crazy, violent roommate or some other situation. The stress that I endured, especially financially, for this company is not worth it and frankly they should be investigated for wage theft. The CEO is atrocious and clearly makes his living exploiting his employees. He should be ashamed of himself and frankly the entire company should be shut down and the care work should be left to the state to handle because at least the workers will be paid fairly.

Pros

I enjoyed the work and my clients. I wish they paid more. They kind of dropped me into a situation with a client that required a ton of care even though I had zero experience. Luckily for me, the caretaker I was replacing was willing to train me. I learned quickly and felt good about helping people.

Cons

Not enough pay for the work.
