Pros

Good people, good health benefits

Cons

Workaholic culture people live to just work and will expect the same from you. 11 hours a day is their minimum amount of work a day and there is no overtime.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your review. We appreciate your input and are glad you are able to take advantage of the great benefits Hensel Phelps provides. Be sure to use your PTO days to relax outside of work. Keeping our work and home life separate will ultimately help us to be more present in both places.

Pros

- Great Pay/Benefits package. Especially for those who stay at the company 5+ Years -Lots of Resources & Training Available to employees - Great variety of Interesting and complex projects - Lots of Opportunity for Advancement (if you are willing to move at any time and work very long hours)

Cons

-Work/Life balance is non-existent. Expect 50 hour work weeks at minimum, and often 60+ is the norm. Construction demands a lot of hours but HP is high even within industry norms. It was not uncommon for me and my fellow employees to be expected to work 6 AM to 8 PM 5 or 6 days a week during my time at the company. -Upper Management is very resistant to change. There’s something to be said for having consistent well developed processes but not being willing to listen to new ideas of how to do things will hurt the company in the long run. -Employee owned company but you don’t become a part of the Employee ownership until 5 years at the company -Questionable Relocation Decisions. People are often moved even if there is a job with a need near their current location and there is little empathy for those with spouses with careers/children that may make moves difficult. When moves are made there is no timeline given as to how long you can expect to be somewhere. This was a con for me but if you’re okay with the lifestyle it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Just realize that if you are going to work at HP you are expected to move at the company’s whim and to set up your personal life accordingly.
