Pros

Good benefits, nice cafeterias, salary structure is very competitive in Camp Hill with similar positions in other companies. There used to be a long list of Pros to work for this company. Not anymore. That's all I can come up with at present.

Cons

Many experienced people are choosing to leave Highmark because of the unprofessional approach taken by most of the senior management team. It seems to be a pre-requisite these days that you must be stupid, arrogant, and treat people horribly to get promoted to upper management. I expect this company to have trouble in the future - there has been, and continues to be, a significant brain-drain as the most capable people choose to leave. Life is too short to work for such people. That's why I left after over two decades. Very happy to have moved on.

If you want to advance, you have to be related to someone or come from outside.

Pros

Very good benefits. Casual attire.

Cons

Very political. Very hard to advance from withing. Management heavy. Lower than industry average pay unless you are upper management. Stressful. Jobs at lower levels being sent overseas.

Pros

Fair pay and good benefits package. Opportunities for training and self improvement. Flexible work hours, some departments offer ability to work from home.

Cons

Very top heavy, often more management involved in projects than analysts. With so many managers, none are willing to take accountability or make decisions that are good for everyone, everything is based on protecting their own team rather than the company as a whole. Big emphasis on hiring project managers, but very few are actually qualified or understand their responsibilities. "do more with less" wears down the excellent employees, and no apparent discipline for those who avoid work or find loopholes. Punishments are "all or none" so that managers do not need to confront troublemakers.
