The non-existent/minuscule merit increases and blatant scarcity of promotions, in tandem with office politics, has been a problem for a couple years running. On the rare occasions it does happen, it is unsurprising to see worthy research associates routinely brushed aside for their undeserving colleague, who just happen to be reporting to the right manager. Previously loyal associates are left frustrated, betrayed, and forsaken. Which obviously leads to low morale and an exodus of talent.

Glass ceilings are in place to hold even the hardest of workers down. No opportunities for growth or advancement. There is a LOT of politics and backstabbing. Upper management is clueless as to what's going on and who is/isn't actually doing work.
