Pros

Worked here starting my sophomore year in college and worked for year after graduation (2012-2015). Was hard to leave with the money I was making and the flexibility that the job allowed. Worked around school schedule very well and would make changes depending on my needs. Management was very open to my ideas/ thoughts and after a bit of time on the job trusted me to make routing decisions. They have gotten some new trucks in that will make the job even easier, reduce hours, hold more ice to make more money, and be able to use pallet jack for deliveries.

Cons

It was hard work, but compensated fairly for it. Worked in all weather conditions (rain, hot, cold), but management would call off on real cold or unsafe days to be on the road (winter).

Thank you for your service to Home City Ice and thank you for the feedback. We take a great deal of pride in providing students an opportunity to have flexible schedules so they can work and go to school. We have actually implemented a tuition reimbursement program to help with the cost as well. - Human Resources

Pros

You can make awesome money as long as you don't mind working ridiculous hours go to be on the road most the day build some muscle

Cons

Home City Ice doesn't care again all about the bottom dollar they will sell somebody a bag of ice that has been sitting in a truck did the refrigeration unit wasn't working all day with no problem and no concerns. Air bagging rooms are disgusting they barely passed Health inspections most time I don't they run their drivers way past the dot guidelines. Family life does not concern them thank you care less whether you have kids and they make promises that they never keep.

Hi there! I’m very sorry you had a negative experience with us. We constantly strive to make a better environment for each employee and want to learn from every situation we can to be the best place to work. If you would be willing to take the time, please send an email to hr@homecityice.com so that we can learn from your full experience. As far as our plants, not only have we never failed a health inspection, but we have more perfect plant inspections than any other ice company in the world as completed by our third party auditors NSF International. We take any situation less than perfection very seriously and would be very appreciative of any details you could provide for us to help us improve! We absolutely should have been better at communicating the flexibility of our driver schedules to you, and done a better job of checking to see if the workload was too heavy, and apologize for our shortcomings. Our drivers always have the ability to work fewer days if it is too much, and as a family owned company we know how important time away from work is. On the positive side, I’m glad you saw the opportunity to earn awesome pay! It is a physically demanding job that is hard work, and we strive to pay our people well for that effort. Thank you for your feedback!

Pros

The nature of the job gives you a lot of freedom/responsibility. You will learn how to navigate a great deal. This is a large corporation, they have liability insurance.

Cons

You work about 12hrs a day, generally 6 days a week. You work in the summer heat. The company doesn't keep all the trucks in ideal shape, just decent enough to be on the road. There aren't any security measure to keep you from carrying cash, you have to get money orders on your own. The customers can be very difficult, and traffic can be frustrating. It sales oriented, but sales often depends on the market and the base rate of pay is $8/hr.
