Pros
HomeServe is a great place to work, offering a generous amount of swag and a decent salary.
Cons
However, their employee support has declined significantly due to managers mistreating their staff. In my personal experience, I thoroughly enjoyed my job, my team, and my colleagues. However, all of that came crashing down when lies were revealed. I was not comfortable with how they intended to handle a situation, and I fought against it. Unfortunately, because they faced consequences from HR due to some of their comments, I was punished. Shortly after the meeting, I was informed that I would likely be placed in a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). I sought clarification from HR, anticipating that it would be retaliation. However, HR denied this possibility. Tragically, the head of HR was let go due to organizational changes, and suddenly, I found myself in a PIP with mostly false allegations and no intervention from anyone. Despite the absurdity of the situation, I decided to let it go because it made no sense to me that it was even allowed to happen in the first place. HomeServe had a great culture where diversity was celebrated, regardless of race, religion, background, or sexuality. We all worked together as a team. However, there were some managers who wanted to be better than everyone else. One concerning issue was the company’s attitude towards employees who complained about discrimination or harassment. HomeServe encouraged employees to speak up to HR, assuring them that retaliation would not be tolerated. Unfortunately, this was not always the case. For example, there was a racist supervisor who made offensive comments and mistreated employees of color. Agents complained to management, but nothing was done until an agent directly approached HR and provided evidence of the supervisor’s behavior. Despite this, HR failed to take action and only suggested that the agent be placed with another supervisor to investigate further. Another issue was a manager in another department who displayed borderline or outright racism. This manager was not interested in getting to know their employees’ work and belittled one person who had a relationship with another employee. It is disheartening to see that after years of HR’s inaction, employees are still facing discrimination and harassment. It is unacceptable that someone can be nominated for the President’s Award and then end up with a partial or below-meets performance rating. If this is happening, HR should question the motives of the manager and request evidence from both the manager and the employee to make an accurate determination. It is sad that HomeServe continues to lose talented employees due to poor management.
