Pros

Health benefits are ok. Travel perks are good. Monetary pay is low.

Cons

The ticket counter position has been dumbed down to the point that there is very little intelligence needed to work there. A standard GED (if that) is all you need. It is now pushing buttons on a screen and politely telling people that they need to either call reservations, or do it themselves on-line. This is great for collecting fees and for Alaska's bottom line - not so good for the older, less tech-savy passengers. Local management is (as stated in another review) a crap shoot - especially in the smaller cities. Turn-over in the smaller stations is really high, especially amongst variable time employees, who are sometimes bullied and harassed by other agents, and management is either oblivious or complacent in the treatment. It is no wonder, given managers that are disengaged from the station and seem to only care about the company stock price, and only listen to senior employees. The tail wags the dog. Absolutely no mentoring shown to employees who show an interest in promotion or transferring, only favoritism. No equal opportunities, and the hazing and harassment is only tolerated by young employees who don't know any better.

Pros

Flight and health benefits. It is an active job ,variety, overtime available but in form of shift trades so overtime is rarely paid.

Cons

Difficult to fly standby, the deductible for the health insurance was almost 1/2 a months pay. Many employees either bullied or just ignored new hires. Being literally 1 or 2 minutes late a few times can get you fired.
