Pros

World-class team. Good focus on the customer.

Cons

C-suite leadership is out of touch with ICs. High workload with little support. Frequent denial of resources needed for everyone to do their jobs well. Yes-man culture when it comes to executive whims and ideas. People get fired with little to no warning because they were disliked by someone in leadership. Good people get passed for promotions while favorite teams and leaders are given everything they ask for.

Thank you for the honest feedback and for recognizing the strength of the team and our focus on customers. We hold ourselves and our team members to a high bar, and we take seriously the feedback that our support and recognition practices should match that same standard. -Housecall Pro People Team

Not a mature product organization

Business Outlook

Pros

There are smart, well-intentioned individual contributors here and there.

Cons

The primary issue is leadership and organizational structure within the Product organization. Decision-making is highly centralized and top-down, with limited input from teams closer to the work. Accountability is uneven, and when initiatives struggle, responsibility often falls on individuals rather than on strategy, structure, or leadership decisions. Process is inconsistent and frequently changing. Teams, priorities, and reporting lines shift often, which makes it difficult for anyone to develop deep domain knowledge or long-term ownership. The constant movement creates confusion and slows progress, despite high expectations for delivery. Innovation is limited. Much of the work focuses on incremental changes rather than meaningful improvements, and initiatives positioned as forward-looking or “AI-driven” feel basic and underdeveloped compared to what competitors are doing. The overall approach feels reactive rather than strategic. The product reflects these challenges. It lacks cohesion and polish relative to competitors, and usability issues persist. Customer growth appears driven more by market churn than by strong differentiation, which raises questions about long-term retention. Compensation is another factor to consider. Pay generally falls below market averages for comparable roles, which is difficult to reconcile with the level of pressure, responsibility, and pace expected. For those looking for strong leadership, clear accountability, stable teams, competitive pay, and a more mature product culture, it will likely be a frustrating experience.

Thank you for writing this in such detail. Feedback on decision-making structure, accountability at the leadership level, and compensation is not something we can respond to with a template. We hear the specific concerns raised and will share this with the right leaders. We appreciate the candor. Please connect with the People Team if you would like to continue the conversation. -Housecall Pro People Team

HCP is AMAZING!

Pros

I have been working at HCP for about 2 and 1/2 years and have only positive things to say/share about my time so far. HCP really focuses on cultivating a work culture of appreciation and support for their employees. When my journey first started here, I received extensive training that allowed me to really understand the company, the product and my role. When I first started I was constantly thinking that this was too good to be true and 'waiting for the other shoe to drop' but it never did. My particular department is comprised of amazing teammates who genuinely want to you to succeed and are more than happy to provide you with support when needed. There is also room for growth - whether that be within one particular department or cross-departmentally. If you are interested in applying for a role at HCP I highly recommend it!

Cons

There isn't anything I can speak to personally as far as my experience.

Thank you for this! Two and a half years in and still waiting for the other shoe to drop is honestly the best thing we could hear. Training, team support, and genuine care for growth are not just promises here. We are so glad you are part of this team. -Housecall Pro People Team
