Disappointing Middle Management and Toxic Team Culture

Pros

• I really liked the flexibility and work anywhere program.

Cons

• Middle management plays favorites, creating inequity in opportunities • Expectations are unclear and constantly shifting • Culture feels performative—more about appearances than authenticity or safety • Feedback isn’t always welcomed unless it fits the narrative • I was explicitly discouraged from applying to internal roles, which was demoralizing and limiting • When I left, benefits were changing ie unlimited PTO and week of rest • Had 3 different managers in 2 years, leading to inconsistent feedback, shifting priorities, and lack of long-term support. • A former manager told me I was tracking well for a strong performance review, only to later put me on a PIP without clear warning—felt blindsided and misled. • Performance review process felt arbitrary and inequitable: I completed 7 out of 9 quarterly goals and received no recognition, while a coworker who completed none still received praise and rewards • I felt imposter syndrome the entire time—not because of my ability, but because of how the system made me feel invisible and undervalued. I’ve mentioned to my manager and no actions were taken to assist.

Pros

really great coworkers and some of the smartest people around.

Cons

you keep swapping out C-Suites and executives every 6 months who then change up the goals, visions, and cultures of the company. You take away benefits with a smile on your faces. You gaslight us. You say we don't deserve more pay. I've gotten global top performer awards YoY, but struggle to get past a recruiter screenings for internal interview opps. You sacrifice the satisfaction of your employees for AI and clout. This company is completely foreign to me from when I started 6 years ago.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, though it’s tough to read. We truly appreciate the contributions you’ve made over your six years here. We’re in the midst of an intentional culture evolution designed to bring more clarity, consistency, and alignment as we grow. That means some changes in leadership and priorities, which we know can be challenging—especially for those who’ve experienced different chapters of HubSpot. Feedback like yours is important in helping us stay grounded in our mission while continuing to evolve. Regarding internal mobility, our goal is to ensure equitable processes and growth opportunities for all employees. If you’re open to it, we’d encourage you to connect with your manager or HRBP to discuss your career aspirations and any blockers you’ve encountered, or visit the internal mobility Wiki. We would push back on your comment that we’ve taken away benefits - earlier this year, we added guardrails to Unlimited Vacation, reframing it as Flexible Time Off in an effort to be more equitable across all teams. For more, see hubspot.com/careers/benefits Thank you again for sharing your perspective and for all you’ve done for HubSpot and our customers. – The People Team

Things are going downhill quickly here.

Pros

Working remotely has been nice, but I’m hearing that is going away next.

Cons

Over the years HubSpot has lost its way. We used to care about people, culture, and wellbeing of our team. Those days are over now. Helen our CHRO says we shouldn’t care about making money or being happy here, but instead making the company succeed. Top leaders are leaving weekly and new leaders from outside the org are ruining the company. Oh and almost forgot we no longer have a PTO policy or Sick Days. Not really sure how they legally are getting away with it. Goodbye health benefits!
