Pros

-Co-workers -Benefits are pretty good

Cons

-Good ol boys club, operates very old school -values how long you have worked at hy-vee over experience (this is a direct saying from pervious ceo randy) -favoritism -watch your pto, had a problem of some vac time being paid out, never got the actually money for it even though on paper it says they paid -micromanagement, this comes from all the from the top -upper management doesn’t own up to mistakes -is not honest with employees - took away employee discount, then brought it back but employees can only use it once a week(10% off), this is a joke, on top of that they were trying to tell employees that other places don’t give discounts, haha that’s hilarious cuz it’s not true -department managers get blamed for upper managements mistakes - terrible compensation -takes advantage of good working employees -too many hands in the cookie jar -useless positions at corporate office -low pay -store managers can tell employees how to take their vacation time, HR and/or upper management does nothing. There are store managers that will ONLY let you use your vacation time in week increments

Pros

It has great benefits. Friendly people. Top grocery in its area. Great experience.

Cons

Fairly unorganized in terms of back-stock. Wage difference is phenomenal for what a Store Director makes (depending on the store, 100k-350k+) and what we make (never heard of an Assistant Manager make more than $15/hr). Base employees treated like cattle. Lose one, who cares, will gain one eventually. Heaviest workload put on Asst. Mgr. and, by far, have the most difficult job in the store. Late late hours.

Pros

Depending on what store you are in there is a sense of family within the employees and department managers. Hyvee is fast paced and is always something new.

Cons

Hyvee does not take care of their employees. If hurt at work HR will undermine your compensation process by lying about time lines and what is needed to be completed. In my experience, the HR in my store was allowed to ask other employees to say that a manager was not hurt at work, thankfully for that manager the employee had some integrity and told the truth. Once your worker compensation case is proven to be true HyVee's insurance will delay all payments to doctors, insurance, prescriptions and will not return phone calls. HY-Vee will also delay any treatment that you are supposed to have along with not providing proper insurance information. This will lead to you trying to be reimbursed after having to run everything thru your personal insurance. HyVee does not care about its employees and allows HR in stores to make decisions that negate what trained doctors in the best hospitals in the US have dictated in order to try to get out of laying for an injury at work. This Is NOT a company that you will want to work for. It does not matter what position you are in, if that store does not have a strong Store Director with integrity you will not be taken care of. I loved my job and would have went back in a heartbeat if I could have until HyVee made it impossible and personal.
