Pros

Many options to advance or change careers. It is great to work for a company that is well recognized in the marketplace. I enjoy working at IBM because we are the benchmark by which many companies are measured. It feels good to be working for one of the top companies in the world.

Cons

Very large company. Sometimes you feel like just a number. Although the size of IBM brings stability and job security, the size can also make you feel lost. IBM has focused more on Wall Street expectations and less on employee moral in the past few years.

Pros

Opportunities to move jobs, change careers, get educated, travel. Time available to take care of self or family in times of sickness or death - as well as birth. Some of the smartest people in the world work here, most are accessible. Great mentoring program.

Cons

Top heavy organizations. Too many executives. Too many Fellows and Distinguished Engineers. No local management. Spending at the highest levels is out of control. Limit corporate jet / helicopter passes to Sam and his direct reports with <10k people orgs. Realize that not everyone fits in the same box. Too much politics and too much 'friends and family'.
