Clueless Leadership

Pros

For now, the pay and benefits are keeping the productive employees at the company. Those people (the ones actually doing the physical work) are the backbone of the company and they are an absolute pleasure to work with. The company goal is good and admirable.

Cons

Senior leadership (especially operations) does not care about their employees. They have not made a single attempt to improve morale in Print Operations over the past two years. Now that we’re almost done with the company’s biggest project (a great accomplishment in and of itself), any exhalation is dashed by a 40% layoff being decided by those that aren’t in the field without a clue as to how the machines work. “Executive” leadership will only appear on a site if there is a camera involved, spouting absolute nonsense about our machines that sounds nice to the camera, but actually has no real meaning in our world. It’s been proven they actually read these reviews, but not a single thing has been done to improve the lives of your company’s backbone, and it’s obvious you don’t care.

Pros

Most of the employees and mid-level management are great to work with. Pay and benefits are decent.

Cons

Most of the executive leadership lack any real experience making it a difficult place to work at. Goals quickly change but are not backed by data. These quick changes that are not well thought through and negatively impact the employees doing the hard work. Change at a startup is normal, but at ICON it's chaotic and lacks organization. Employees are not valued at all, especially in operations. Technicians asked to work in unsafe conditions on a regular basis. Safety at this company is almost non-existent and blatantly ignored when leaders want to hit certain goals or metrics. Technicians are asked to work grueling hours in extreme climates and are given little to no notice when drastic schedule changes happen, even when these changes ARE in the company's control. When the life of a print tech's safety is compared to someone driving a car by the ceo, that's a red flag. Favoritism is an issue. There seems to be an "it" crowd at ICON that is mostly made up of young, white men. These seem to be the only people valued at ICON and are given opportunities not based on skill or merit, but because they are well liked by leadership.

Pros

Intense timelines, industry shattering product performance, genuine people who want to change an industry and solve hard problems. If you want to do good work and see real results, work here. If you want to hide behind a desk and do as little as possible, don't work here.

Cons

It's a high-velocity place. If you're looking for a challenge, you'll find it here. That's only a bad thing for folks who shouldn't have applied to the company in the first place. Not everyone fits at ICON but those that fit, thrive.
