Pros

• Exposure to global Phase I–IV trials across various therapeutic areas • Opportunities to collaborate with experienced teams in clinical research • Use of major industry tools and systems (Veeva Vault, InForm, Siebel CTMS, etc.) • Remote work flexibility

Cons

• No merit increases or cost-of-living adjustments, even with strong performance • Promised promotions that never materialized—despite taking on higher-level responsibilities and supporting CRA-level tasks • Excessive workload due to high turnover and understaffing • Lack of transparency and communication from leadership • Sudden layoff with little notice, despite being told the team was stable and secure

Pros

Remote working, flexible schedule (depending on your position and color, you can actually do no work for an entire year and still be paid AND praised)

Cons

Working at ICON is a lesson in constant anxiety and fear mongering. With a poor upper management structure and warped ideas when it comes to the topic of race, diversity, and equal opportunities (white cis men should not be leading Black History Month discussions and ICON should be deeply embarrassed for this move alone). In addition, despite its rigorous interview process, ICON continues to hire inexperienced and desperately unmotivated individuals to manage and lead we small folks who are left at the bottom. Why is this so? The Microsoft Suite alone has been an industry standard package for well over a decade and yet, finding colleagues who can manage the basic functionality of these applications is completely few and far between, and finding people who WANT to actually learn is even fewer. If people can't learn basic computer skills, why are they the ones in charge of the major applications entrusted to maintain vital patient data? When I started, I worked under the best manager that I have had in 13+ years of working in the industry. Knowledgeable, attentive, and worked with an empathetic heart put into their every move. This manager was moved into a different space for absolutely no reason. Now I am under a manager who, if I am lucky, actually remembers my name when we speak. Over half a year of having the same 1:1 conversations because this new manager refuses to write anything down about me to at least feign interest in me as an employee. My mental health has never been destroyed so quickly by a machine. Just another joke of a CRO in our midst. Don’t be fooled.
