Very poor management

Pros

The pay is ok and you're largely left alone to do your job, which is nice (to an extent).

Cons

When I joined, my induction lasted a few hours, after which both of the people that were supposed to induct me left. That meant the first month or so in the job was a bizarre affair, where often I was left clutching at straws as to how to do my job well. Sadly this poor level of management continued, with my final week offering the cherry on the cake. After months spent bulk mailing (spamming?) our membership to within an inch of their life, I was far from happy in the job. After telling my line manager, the next day I saw my position advertised on the company website. She assured me the next day this was a mistake, as did the head of recruitment, and it was removed. The next day the same advert appeared on their Facebook page. Three days later I was told the inevitable in person. I'd love to recommend this company as I had high hopes when I joined, but really the care shown to employees is minimal, despite the quarterly charade of the staff events where management like to present the image of togetherness.

Pros

Like many places in New York, you will find great people working with you.

Cons

Terrible management and work environment. In my first week, I saw a group of people walking out after being fired. This was something new to me and also something I became very accustomed to seeing in my time at IQPC. As a Conference Producer, you are often given event topics that have been rerun too many times, something that is a direct copy of a competitor's event, or just topically irrelevant. Unfortunately, most events are doomed to fail from their inception and all team members associated with an event are then measured on their ability to shine a turd. The turnover rate is exceptionally high which speaks to the corporate culture. It also makes it very difficult to produce anything of quality as you are constantly working with new people, often in the middle of an event launch.

Pros

- Dynamic business environment that centers around hot business topics and emerging trends and hobnobbing with pretty senior executives - Never boring or tedious - always exciting! - Very fast paced and deadline driven - a great place to be if you thrive on speed - They are always looking to promote good people - I was promoted after 8 months with them and I've seen many others take on bigger roles pretty quickly too. You get a chance at a manager role much faster here than you would in most other places - You get to work on projects from start to finish and to travel to your events and see them happen live

Cons

- The speed and deadlines can be overwhelming at times and is not for the faint of heart - This isn't necessarily a con but they don't sugar coat anything - you'll hear the truth about your work performance and constructive criticism can be hard to swallow
