Pros

There are some really good talented people working for IRIS, but more often than not they leave to get get a better salary elsewhere. Benefits are average, 3% statutory contribution to pension, 26 days annual leave, mediocre pay and a token bonus pot to which you have to jump through many hurdles, then keep your fingers crossed they decide to pay.

Cons

No salary increase this year, although EBITDA (profit) was double digit growth. Senior engineering management are not fit for purpose an should be removed with immediate effect. I have never worked with people that have managed to climb so high on the corporate ladder and yet be so incompetent, completely astounds me. The level of micromanagement just introduces its own level of inefficiencies and most often the wrong people are doing the wrong jobs. There is little to no training, the company is haemorrhaging talent and thinks it can find graduates to work on software which is 20+ years using C++ and pay peanuts. Morale is low where we're fast approaching a situation where there are more managers than people to do the actual work. HR is a complete waste of time/effort and space. They offers no real value and can be outsourced.

How not to carry execute an acquisition strategy

Pros

Salary is reasonable and bonuses have been paid in the past

Cons

A series of unintegrated acquisitions in the legal sector by Computer Software Group (CSG) were compounded by the backers of the solid IRIS accountancy business acquiring CSG in the mistaken belief accountants and lawyers were in any way similar. After several years of announcing and reversing strategies, offshoring then onshoring development and allowing the talent and industry expertise to walk away in despair, the two sides were demerged again. Morale, already low, is presumably now rock-bottom, and software releases are slower to emerge than ever.
