Pros

I was between a rock and a hard place during the pandemic. I was hired on here right before the pandemic. I started a few months into the pandemic. The IRS does have a very bad reputation. From very concerning social situations, improper employee and manager conduct, and very stressful situations. However, this job was also a blessing. I had stable employment during the pandemic and did not haft to worry about being laid off. Having a steady paycheck is really nice when everyone else is laid off.. My word of advice. This is a good holding position. Stay here from 8-12 months. Get good experience, and figure out next steps within your career. It's very stable and it allows that. But please don't linger to long.

Cons

Keep in mind my experience is not the same as other employees. During the pandemic the stress was high. Management couldn't keep people, and at the time there was a hiring freeze. People began to crack mentally.

Easy but boring

Pros

Only have to come into the office once a week. I don't have to talk to people on the phones. Working from home + not having to talk to anyone, probably the best job if you're an introvert. Starts at $40k and only goes up to $53k after 2 years. Decent benefits and pension after five years.

Cons

Very high learning curve when getting acquainted with the systems they use. So much information with tax laws, and out-dated systems. Mind numbingly boring. Not much room for growth internally unless you have a degree or want to be a manager or debt collector (revenue officer).

Pros

-Extremely easy to get hired in a pinch -Very relaxed work environment -Jobs for seniors and people with disabilities -Pay is enough for a single person's living expenses -Benefits cover all your bases -There's a lot to do right now due to being backed up from current events, so the work is plentiful and employment stable. -Location is drivable from most parts of town -People are really friendly, if sometimes strange.

Cons

-Absolute disaster of organization. No departments are in coordination with one another, so you often have to push and investigate the motives behind conflicting instructions. -My job is actually pointless and the counting/sorting of forms can be easily automated. A few good software engineers are worth a thousand hourly clerks. -Horrendous procedure documentation, or none at all in most cases. -As a result of hiring literally anyone, the environment is very punitive. You are not trusted to be an autonomous adult with proper breaks, days off or even internet access. -Worst of all, there are no channels for feedback with these issues. Managers, supervisors and others I've gone to in an effort to fix various things just kind of shrug and carry on. There's an element of futility from being part of an organization so big it eclipses every individual's actions.
