Pros

Set schedule no weekends. Not asked to stay late. and 401-K. Some managers help you succeed.

Cons

The culture is one of intimidation and friends promoting friends. Most managers don't know how to manager or do the job and bully employees with impunity. The Union is full of rule breakers and they threaten employees who attempt to leave union. You can easily get stuck in entry-level IRS job and a lot of other agencies overlook Contact Reps.

Pros

The IRS has very robust telework and alternate work schedule policies. Managers are encouraged to allow employees to work from home based on the needs and objectives of organization. Employees frequently what are called 5/4/9 or 4//10 schedules and enjoy one or two days off during a pay period respectively.

Cons

Constant budget struggles, hiring freezes, outdated technology and poor comradery among employees. Inexperienced and/or poorly trained managers causes poor morale in many areas of the organization.
