Pros

Benefits package and they still have a pension, as well as a 401k.

Cons

The atmosphere at the IRS leaves much to be desired. Growth is not nurtured here, especially if you want to move to another business unit. There are no cross-training opportunities, only those that keep you in the same business unit.

Pros

Federal Law Enforcement position, can be just like the movies if you work hard and are stationed in Miami. Exciting, camaraderie available, open to specialize in an area you choose with few limitations, good benefits and early retirement

Cons

Unpredictable hours at times, long hours at times (required to work a minimum of 50 hours/week; some do, some don't, some go above & beyond), disorganized management at times, some bureaucracy, low morale at times, largely driven by IRS civil functions with little understanding of law enforcement

Pros

Interesting work, health benefits are great, the compensation is decent, free transpass to ride regional rail . The 10% nighttime differential pay offsets the city wage tax.

Cons

The "zero tolerance" policy with respect to sexual harassment is a joke. Training should be tailored to the needs of the department and taxpayers. The need for a department manager to micro manage a select few employees is curious if not downright suspicious. The mass exodus of TEs from my department is unnerving.
