Pros

We have an abundance of projects and opportunities to work on policy-level initiatives. The work is interesting and the people are very friendly. The Maryland office where I work has a gym, credit union, health unit, and large cafeteria with Dunkin Donuts and Subway as options.

Cons

The budget is held hostage by Congress. We are operating at 2010 levels, and we have to get approval to fill positions that are vacated due to attrition or retirement. Hiring exceptions for new positions is rare. We are doing much more with much less. Training is a thing of the past. My low rating is due to the budget constraints, not the agency itself.

Pros

The money was great and you are up for a raise every year.

Cons

People are unprofessional. Managers are mean and unprofessional and it is hard to advance unless you are cut throat. My position was seasonal so we would be furloughed and we never knew for how long. It could be for a week 2 weeks or for several months. You are never in the loop if what is going on.
