      Strong Company--but all about the numbers

      Pros

      Just look at the stock price. ITW is a strong company with a clear direction. ITW has resources and muscle and understands operational excellence with the best of them.

      Cons

      ITW is a keenly analytical organization--it's a core strength. But strengths to an extreme can be weaknesses. ITW is so numbers-driven, it can impede progress. What's more, it creates fear, as people who have been major contributors for decades are shown the door in order to save money or pursue a new direction. There is no such thing as security at ITW--I suspect it is by design.

      Employees are just a number

      Pros

      Didn't have to work weekends or nights. When I "clocked out", I left my job there and did not bring it home with me.

      Cons

      Management did not support nor build you up. Any time a proposal for improvement was submitted, it was met with push back. No visible paths for promotion. Underpaid, undervalued, and employees being just a "number" is the culture here.

      Horrible corporation to work for

      Good history and big company.

      Cons

      Bully management. Non-functional HR. Long unpaid hours, lot more than 40 hour/ week. Most of the workers significant underpaid.
