Great on the surface, but when you scratch that away...
Pros
- There is a great family atmosphere in stores - Everyone looks out for each other and don't adhere to some of the companies more ridiculous and, frankly, insulting rules. - Great way to be brought out of your shell and you gain experience in how to talk to many different types of people. - good part time job for when you are younger and unable to work over 15 hours per week.
Cons
- We don't get paid enough for what we are expected to do or how we get treated by higher management (Area Managers and above). - Management of the area and head office are absolutely awful. - Stupid, careless actions taken by payroll a lot of the time (such as giving advances on holiday hours, meaning you are then in dept to the company often by £200 or more), which is only told to you once you try to leave. - Little to no communication amongst higher management. - Expected to work for free after your hours are up yet you still haven't completed the long list of things that were given to you at the beginning. - Unfair favouritisation amongst colleagues : most new assistants are just fobbed on to till for a year before they even get asked to do something stock related. - Unfair rewards system - e.g, a cashier who does nothing receives a reward for their "commitment" after I worked 50 hours for three consecutive weeks with no day off to just help out. - Often expected to work through your breaks unpaid. - Brainwashing of colleagues to believe that it is the perfect company to work for as flaws are covered up. - no clocking in/out system so more often than not you are underpaid (as hours are dealt with by a supervisor or manager). - a lot has changed over the past year in a very negative way as many changes are made that may benefit those sitting in the office chairs up in Deeside, yet make work for is even harder than it is.
