Over control for the sake of control

Pros

I give Customer Service a 1, the rest of this company a 3. The pay is above average, and there is still a pension.

Cons

Those in control of Customer Service are an interesting bunch, and like most call centers, there are metrics and analytics, however, they've gone beyond achieving goals meant for good customer experiences, and instead, are controlling simply for the sake of controlling. To make matter worse, many in leadership have questionable personal ethics, and that unfortunately bleeds into the day-to-day management. Some actually rise to the level of incompetence, but are protected by many years and generations of family members, both former and past, at the company. Most in Customer Service are simply doing their time, hoping to transfer elsewhere in the company, so if this is your goal, be prepared for a very long wait. The rest of this company is a decent place, Customer Service is a den of negativity, for no real business purpose, led by those who thrive on control, not providing amazing customer experiences.

Call center

Pros

they pay, good benefits, and solid people working around you. Plenty of potential for career growth, as long as you're willing to stick around a loooong time.

Cons

Its a call center. They try to pretend that they're different or have some kind of special work culture, but there are calls in que and hard metrics for everything you can imagine. If endless calls and classic call center experience is your thing, then great. They demand a lot, and pay is increased based on time rather than actual skill or responsibility.

Becoming a typical investor owned utility

Pros

It's a protected industry. It has some of the most salt of the earth people working here. The pay is not bad.

Cons

The constant squeeze to get more done with less, work longer, outsource anything we can makes working here discouraging. Corners are cut to encourage growth with unrealistic timelines. We bend over backwards to make sure the investors and upper management are well taken care of.
