Lack of substance, growth, learning. In my experience, you're hired to be a punching bag and there's really only a handful of people who actually have any strategic input. You'll be a executor only which is fine if that's what you're looking for but there are dozens of places in Madison I'm finding that are more in-depth and encourage personal and professional growth better. I just felt a bit gross - the top of the company still feels like I'm living Mean Girls. I read the reviews and chalked it up to bitter employees but it was jarring how this seems to be an occuring long term issue for them. There are some genuinely brilliant people there, but the people calling the shots are necessarily those brilliant people (or close to it). At the very top of the company comes an individual more focused on her appearance as some genius business women than someone who has a remote care of her employees. The feeling of them watching from their ivory towers was very real and very derepressing

Looking back at my time at The Evoke Agency, it’s pretty disappointing, especially with what went down last week when they laid off a bunch of us because they couldn’t keep their clients. The past few months were rough with so many people leaving, and nobody really knew what was going on. Despite the cool office vibe and all, the company didn’t really help us grow professionally, especially us younger folks. Instead of helping us improve, they seemed more interested in boosting up the higher-ups, giving them all these opportunities while the rest of us were stuck doing the same old tasks without much chance to shine. They’d throw us a tiny bonus (like 100 bucks a quarter), but it didn’t really make up for the lack of real motivation with a skeleton team. The office felt like high school sometimes, with certain people getting special treatment and all this gossip flying around. Some got to work from home, while others didn’t, and don’t even get me started on the huge pay differences between us. The big boss seemed more concerned about how she looked than what was actually happening, and with so many people leaving, it was obvious things weren’t going great. Even though the client team was bringing in some cool clients, we just didn’t have enough team members and enough guidance to produce what we needed to get the job done right. As more people left, management didn’t seem to care about fixing the real issues or replacing some major positions. And then, bam, I got laid off too. It’s a wake-up call about how shaky things are at The Evoke Agency. I can’t really recommend it if you’re looking for a stable job where you can grow. The layoffs are a sign that things aren’t going well, and they don’t seem to care about us employees.
