Pros

I lost years off my life working here but I met some very cool people along the way. When it's a "good week" at Evoke, you can create really cool things and actually learn valuable skills. Sadly, there are not enough good weeks.

Cons

I don't even know where to begin with Ideas That Evoke. You could read the painfully obvious fake 5 star reviews posted by management in an attempt to save face or you can just ask anyone in the town of Madison. Let's just say their reputation is well known. It's a classic bad company: poor treatment from the top, extremely low pay, very long hours that they say they don't want you to do but you better do it or else. On top of that there is constant distrust and a complete lack of job security. They say they support women because it's owned by one but I don't even think they offer maternity leave, at least not when I started. If you're thinking of working here, I strongly advise you to look at the reviews here and ask around town for a better understanding. If you still choose to work here, I suggest you develop a thick skin and deep sarcasm and various other coping mechanisms for the emotional breakdowns you will inevitably have.

Pros

What pros? I will say that SOME of the people that work there are okay

Cons

Don’t fall for the couple positive reviews for this place. They are either absolutely fake or written by one of the *cult-like followers.* I saw the early reviews and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. “Maybe these were just a few disgruntled employees. Bad eggs. It can’t be that bad. It’ll be different for me.” I was obviously and completely wrong. To put it simply, this company is a sham. Their appearance is heavily curated to be fun, young pink, progressive. In reality it is the textbook definition of both a sweatshop and the popular girls’ table in a high school lunchroom. The two women running this organization live for drama, gossip and caddy behavior, then design the office to make sure all conversations remain public (except the ones behind their conveniently closed doors). My hope was that this mostly female run company would be progressive and empowering, but truthfully if you’re not the cookie-cutter robot they are expect you to be, you will be ostracized, picked on, and remain stagnant until you finally quit for your own sake. One girl quit after less than 1.5 yrs and everyone whispered that it was a long time in “Evoke years.” I left the place feeling like I was coming straight out of an abusive relationship. The mind games and gaslighting are simply not worth the low pay and practically zero benefits. They have NO understanding of work/life balance. They will scold you for working too hard or too much and reprimand you for doing the opposite. They expect you to provide ground-breaking creativity, but limit you by forcing you to essentially copy other brands’ work, because supposedly the creative department can’t be trusted with actual creative inspiration. Which is unfortunate, because many of the people in the design dept. are very talented and innovative - or at least want to be.. They do not trust their employees to make adult decisions. Even the *prized children* recognize this. And if all of this wasn’t enough, you will have to buy an entirely new wardrobe because of the extremely strict dress code. TLDR; You will be micro-managed without reserve. You will not be underpaid and underappreciated. You will not be respected in the slightest and you will utterly hate it. If you are even slightly considering this place, RUN AWAY FAST. You would have a better time driving a garbage truck than working at this dump.
