Pros

San Diego is a great place to live

Cons

Illumina has lost it's luster and its way. Multiple reorgs in the past 18 months; loss of 50+ Sr. Directors and VPs has lead to a chaotic, miserable working situation with many of the best people having left for greener pastures.

Pros

*Flexible company culture *Pro veteran *Promising technology *Great campus perks

Cons

*Our manufacturing culture has gone from a place of collaboration and empowerment to that of micromanagement, self-promotion at the expense of your subordinates, and lack of respect. The guiding principles they worked so hard to promote last year are absent in manufacturing from upper management all the way down to supervisors. *Unclear advancement schedule with little visibility on opportunities to grow within roles. We were told to pursue career development in our own time because production takes priority over my career path. *Advancement is possible if you are one of management's favorites. *Don't be a woman and ask direct questions- management will deem you aggressive. They love passive-aggressive communication. Oh, and don't forget that sending out copious emails equals visibility and will supposedly get you noticed and promoted. *Equipment frequently breaks down, but rather than giving the equipment team ample time to work the issues, they are hounded by the floor and Mfg leadership to hurry up and fix it because of their numbers game. *Employee ideas are presented as the work of their leaders and supervisors thank their team for making them look good in front of management meanwhile giving them subpar yearly evals. I and many others have started or are looking to work elsewhere because the toxic environment wears you down.

Pros

People are smart and work is interesting. Great campus. Good work life balance.

Cons

Unstructured and lack directions. Hard working is not valued. The goal is not to make great product but to fight for credits (even for things you didn't do). Not many innovations/research going on. Gender/racial diversity if not good and no one really cares (at least from what I saw).
