Pros

Company mission Employee benefits Life balance (Flexible time-off) Beautiful campus and location-San Diego

Cons

Political, unorganized, and sometimes toxic work environment. Attractive company values only in writing but NOT in practice: - teams do NOT collaborate deeply: extremely" cliquish" and political with tons of closed-door meetings for upper management only; - NOT open – transparency? Not at Illumina! Promotion is mostly based on networking or friendship with managers rather than the actual performance. (some PhD level scientist make less than $45/hour, women specially) Lack of diversity across teams. Lack of recognition for hard work. Lack of resources and red tape for any request that costs the company nickels and dimes. Very poor management. Managers lead from behind and are not trained or encouraged to prepare their teams for success, often look down on subordinates. It is common for managers to come to work by 10am, leave by 3:30pm, and spend the rest of their “work” scheduled for “meetings”. Morale is very low as the company continues to layoff great people

Pros

Market share Compensation package Well planned, thoughtful facilities *Positive reputation in community

Cons

Rampant employee burnout and emotional implosions due to stress, impossible workload, blatant favoritism and cringe worthy petty politics. Temp to NEVER hire. Most contractors won't make it to a permanent position and that is deliberate. Endless, useless meetings monopolized by self-promoting windbags. Absolutely no career growth, no mentors, no goals, and no management oversight-inexcusable. Shady, self-serving, sLimey, micro managers dictating your every move, oblivious to labor laws or business ethics. Overly indulged, venomous admins and unchecked, creepy department bullies who mock peers, harass and act with impunity; HR is useless. Fiscally smug and wasteful. HR staff brag "not everyone is cut out for the culture"... why would you want to be? Public perception is fastidiously managed and hides the truth. *Threats of retaliation by management skews realistic reviews .

Pros

Innovative, fast paced, adaptable; management is very transparent; the products are very exciting and the company as a whole has huge potential

Cons

They just announced that they are cutting bonuses. I am a new employee that left a great company to be part of something amazing and it has not lived up to the hype.
