Pros

Good people struggling to put up with to much bad leadership.

Cons

Arrogant CEO sets the tone for other leaders in the company. Customers struggle to see value in Illumio's niche microsegmentation. Declining valuation, can't even keep up with ISO grant strike price from two years ago. Culture has been going downhill for years.

Hi there - I appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts on your experience here at Illumio. I'm confident in all of our leaders as we continue to build on a strong foundation of people, technology and customer success that has driven our success to date. Building on that confidence, from our executive leadership team through to our front line managers, we are reinforcing our commitment this year to leadership development, beginning with a full day of learning and enablement at our company kickoff. Thanks for your service to the company in the time you were here, and we wish you all the best in your onward journey. Thanks, David Chief People Officer

Culturally dying

Pros

Great disruptive technology (but still looking for its footing in the marketplace)

Cons

2019 C-level adds have slowly and steadily, with CEO support, killed Illumio's winning culture. High voluntary attrition in Finance, Sales and Marketing are just three examples. Illumio is a case study on migrating a fun and challenging workplace in to a place with just a job where you try and keep your head down and out of the line of fire until something better comes along.

I’m sorry to hear that you felt our culture had suffered in the expansion of our leadership team. In 2019, Illumio embarked on an important transition as we moved from start-up to an established, mid-sized company. It’s true that this introduced more infrastructure and more rigor around our practices. However, the aim was to create an environment that is both fun and challenging for employees and that has the consistency and velocity to scale—which we're doing! Also part of this transition is that Illumio has turned a greater focus inward, expanding our commitment to listening to all of our team members. Thank you for your contributions to Illumio and I do wish you the very best in your future. - Emily Couey, SVP of People

In reading your review, I agree that there are always areas that can be improved. Your concern about how quickly we deal with people who are not performing is heard but we have to give people the opportunity to improve and change. That process takes some amount of time and a lot of hard work behind the scenes, which I can understand can be frustrating for other team members such as yourself. We are introducing more robust 360s surveys to evaluate all employees, including managers – stay tuned! - Scott Downie, VP Support, Services & DevOps
