Pros

The leadership truly cares about the employees. Pay is competitive with the bay area, benefits are great, and the perks match others. Everyone is always willing to answer questions from all levels and try their best to be transparent. We have free food onsite & dog-friendly offices at HQ, benefits at little or no cost to employees, gym reimbursement, and even yoga on-site!

Cons

Startup growing pains - fast-moving and constantly changing.

It’s great to hear that the care and concern that we have for our people has resonated with you. I believe that the best thing about Illumio is our talented and dedication team of Illumineers. To that end, we will continue to offer benefits, compensation and perks that ensure our people know their value and their role in our success. Thank you again for your contributions and making the time to provide feedback, especially in this time of working from home! - Emily Couey, SVP of People

Pros

Pros - A very well engineered product. CTO and engineering teams much more talented than anyone else, humble and do a great job. Kudos to that side of the business. They do a great Job as well as implementation and supporting services. Marketing, especially in international teams is extremely well exectued.

Cons

Hard to describe where to start here as sadly there are many. The core of the issue in my experience is the sales organizational culture - I can only attest to sales in this regard, although I gather other teams such as finance have really been through it too. The number one reason illumio fail to retain staff is trust lack of trust from management to their peers, that they hired and put into senior positions but refuse to trust and empower them to own or fulfil their job role. Imagine a continual, condescending tone that demotivates each team member leading to extreme lack of productivity, pride and ability to work. Yes It’s harsh, but it’s true! Successful sales teams need to feel like they are working in an environment where they are respected and trusted. This was especially lacking in the EMEA territory which is a large market and should always do well. Sadly a localised weak and autocratic management function, led the business fail where it really should have thrived. Managing ‘up’ and not understanding sales or leadership will always lead to ultimate demise in productivity, ultimately due to poor selection of VP staff.

I agree with you that a successful sales team needs to feel respected and trusted. We’ve worked hard to create that culture here at Illumio and I’m sorry to hear that this wasn’t your localized experience. We don’t want to say that we have all the answers but we are working to ensure our priority remains: supporting our sales people's success—especially in these times of working from home. We've made some new additions to our Sales Leadership—team members who have a shared vision and have the discipline to see it through. This growth aside, we want you to know that your feedback goes straight to the team members that can make a direct impact. Thank you for giving your thoughtful perspective and helping make us the best we can be. - Emily Couey, SVP of People
