Pros

Close to 80/90 highway corridor May be a good value for students

Cons

This is a poorly managed campus in the campus system. While the new chancellor seems to be wanting to improve the campus retention and recruitment effort, the executive council who are long time staff members won't let him. There is a lot of turnover and nepotism. Some of the rejects from the steel Mills have ended up here especially in IT. Those who are not seen as conforming to the group think are managed out. Information Technology Leadership is poor and needs to be re-evaluated in terms of content, vision, diversity, skill and ethics. If they see you work hard and won't tolerate bullying, out the door you go. Other issues- Resource starved, no adequate work spaces Poor training opportunities Poor oversight of senior management Race relations is very poor.

Overall a good place to work

Pros

IU and UITS is a good place to work. Typically the work environment is pretty lax, however, there are newer higher-ups who want to change that. But for now you can still operate on flex time, stroll in before 9, leave a little early, etc. There is enough work to keep you busy, and plenty of projects for those who want more of a challenge. You can be given opportunities to lead if you show an aptitude for learning and accepting responsibility. Everyone will complain about the benefits and escalating health premiums, and I can get behind that, but overall things are not that bad, and a lot better than many other employers. There are numerous advancement opportunities at IU. UITS is a large organization, so IT personnel can try new positions and retain their benefits and whatnot.

Cons

Pay isn't as good as it should/could be, and don't expect more than 1.5-2.5% a year. The best way to earn more money is to change jobs every few years, or leave IU and return. Some in upper management are making poor decisions, affecting the morale and future of IU, and ultimately leaving things worse off than when they started.

Pros

Very open and purpose driven team is waiting for you if you do the right networking. Your input matters and things will change if you make a good enough case for it. Outsourcing storage and accounts to 3rd parties a major win. Always another rung on the ladder within reach.

Cons

Amoral culture at CIB can get more than a little annoying. Touting green policies but still having all the lights, ac/heat, and coal power of a small town is laughable. Coke and sodexo (read: no free food/pseudo-evil contributions). Dog and pony committees and busy work all too common.
