Mostly a Bank wanting to play in the development sphere. We fund development (others do it).

Pros

A bank with the pace of a line ministry. Reasonable hours. Extra days off before holidays. Defined pension benefit plan (yes, almost a unicorn).

Cons

Diminishing compensation due to inflation (and management could care less). Low morale, despite perks. Recent scandal that ousted the President left a sour taste in the mouths of those lower down the food chain. Unclear career paths. Lots of favoritism. The staff/non-staff divide which gets old.

Great environment, employees from all 48 IDB member countries, but mostly from 26 benefited countries in Latin America

Cons

Very political when expecting career development, only friends of hiring managers get real opportunities. Staff members delegate their responsibilities to consultants and in the end, the work is mostly done by them
